This teenager saved his neighbor's dog from drowning in a freezing pond. This is Bernard. His family contacted emergency services right away, but high school senior Hugh Pinneo got to Bernard first. Hugh said he's "just glad I acted that day and saved the dog's life." We are too. 12/10 for all

So this is great and everything, but I'm puzzled and concerned about taking time to get your GoPro up and running before saving the dog. Why? WHY? It's so disturbing that this suggests a belief that our actions only matter if we can score social media points with the record of them.

That doesn't seem like the most likely scenario considering the time of year and how that stuff's typically stored versus where one might, say, charge your GoPro. I'd like to believe that's what happened, but you haven't convinced me, unfortunately.

Thank you for sharing this. There's more goodness in the world than we see. Kindness doesn't hurt anyone. We're all in this together everyone. Thank you Hugh for rescuing Bernard. Your kindness to him will never be forgotten.

It's nice, on the other hand, he is risking his life in 2 ways: * most people drown when they try to rescue someone else, here he is in a kayak, so might be self, if he were to fall, the cold could really fuck him really fast * maybe he does know the neighbor, but he could have gotten shot

This kid is wonderful for rescuing this dog. It did worry me that he didn't stop for a PFD. Cold water is serious, and the first rule of kayak rescues is to create no new victims. I'm climbing off my soapbox now, and both Hugh and Bernard get a 15/10 from me.
