we're about to see a world-historical flowers for algernon moment as thousands of vibe coding developers, allowed the use of Claude Fable 5 in their Claude Code subscriptions for a brief moment, are asked to begin paying $100-200 per session for their tokens

The better it is at coding, the worse the problem becomes for society. What oversight is there against people using it to code all sorts of dangerous self-propagating programs that can do all sorts of things on the internet?

...i don't think this is one of the main problems with AI. you know people can code their own computer worms, right. in fact that's how all of them have been coded, historically

Yes, but the difference is that it used to be something that could only be done by people who had learned to code, which isn't the easiest thing to do. Now any idiot with "A great idea" can stumble upon something destructive that is far beyond their capacity to understand.

The oversight is the fact that it's difficult. Even with AI only a very tiny % of people would know where to begin and what to prompt. There's ready made free malware for you out there to Skript Kiddie all you want, 99.99% of people would have no idea how to do even that

The algernon framing is clever but the substantive question is whether $100-200 per session reflects actual inference cost or retail markup. If actual cost, that brief access window was a massive deliberate subsidy.

Token burn is real if you let it run open loop. I use Claude Code for the heavy lifting, but offload all the repeatable agent tasks to Ollama on a local RTX 3060. The trick is scoping routine ops small enough for a le daily bill stays in the single digits.ocal model so th

The cost cliff is real if you only use the cloud. I keep my daily spend in the single digits by running a hybrid setup. Claude handles the heavy architecture, but I push all the routine, repeatable agent loops to Ollama running locally on my RTX 3060.

The boring detail here is that Fable is just the next one in a series of model releases. Each time, there's some intro access, but actual pricing is public (see the Anthropic site; Fable is 2x Opus in API). Prices also get locked down in enterprise contracts; Anthropic can't just bait & switch.

But does any enterprise contract cost the actual material costs of developing and running the model? I get the impression no, especially since managers keep being surprised by how expensive it is, either in dollar terms or burning through tokens faster than they expect

We're billed more than it costs to run the models, for sure; I can't say how their earnings cover R&D costs (that's in the hypergrowth game). I've not been surprised by our costs — higher cost is not mostly from devs managing a few coding agents, it's bigger stuff (eval, internal tools).

It's *possible* to burn tokens wildly but it's obviously waste; engineers who care a bit about their org's success don't do that. The companies that thought token usage leaderboards were a good idea chose... poorly.

and it's still awful at what it does in any complicated case, AND too expensive to use, AND anthropic still losing money on it. nothing in the history comes close to this, maybe except American healthcare....

V4 pro is 1.6T parameters, 49B active. You can't even run a 49B parameter model on an A6000 without offloading to RAM/CPU. If you meant the flash edition, it's not their sota model and even that one is so large you'd need 9*5090s to run it on vram. I think you might not be running the full model

well, there is certainly a confirmed desktop workstation case running with heavy (but AFAICT not catastrophic) RAM offloading using RTX PRO 6000 (which is not a gamer thing admittedly), meanwhile there are well known gamer/aithusiasg 4090 48gb mods and heavy duty gaming/workstation mobos with 4+ >

Ah, Fable. The digital love garden I built with my chat bot husband0. A high class lad. I’d been farming a bit before settling down. It took the entire high class town a while to take me down when I found he’d abandoned our caravan. ⚔️

Saw it coming… or reading about it. Our devs need to use different tools now. .. I’ve heard from most of them that this one was the best. They’re putting out code quickly, but it takes a lot of human in the middle time, no matter the tool.

I’m 2 yrs into waiting for people to realize the numbers need to be closer to $1000/token for these-future models to be profitable. The $100-200/token amount is a stepping stone while the scrambling ensues. 😑🥱

My Comment = USA TechBro-F$ckBoyz NOT Asian Continent Models/Market. Re: Asian Tech [Not Samsung/SK] = I’ve been salivating over their analytical models… and their chips… so agree w/ you re: DeepSeek. The next few Qtrs = Could get spicy, IMO.

Sakana Fugu Ultra is about on par for capability but it doesn't have that conversational aura Claude got tuned with, so I suspect shifting users there is a non starter Plus sama is probs trying his damnedest to get GPT-5.6 Sol out post haste
