i am inviting anyone from a legacy media organization to explain to me why the house judiciary dems report on trump’s epstein’s ties and multiple allegations of rape isn’t worthy of extensively reporting on. i’m serious. i want to understand.

Yes, obviously, all kinds of history of Arabic (and Muslim) science, but also: modern institutional racism ignoring non-white contributions, and the concentration of wealth and resources in white institutions. You're just emphasizing how biased these prizes are.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

First sip of prosecco in several days, and can you imagine what a gift it is that such a thing exists? Like white wine AND seltzer? In one thing? We were put on this earth to enjoy such miracles.

I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.

i don't think anyone should run explicitly on banning online gambling but i do think that a democratic-led government should just quietly take steps to undermine the industry and create an inhospitable regulatory environment

Michael Clanchy told people over 50 years ago not to fetishize writing, but he would not diminish the significance of writing today because he knew well that it now equates to power and to eschew it is to disempower one's self. I mention this bc we are seeing the emergence of an arch stance on GenAI

Sonja Drimmer@sonjadrimmer.bsky.social

One of the annoying effects of AI as a subject in higher ed is how much it brings out the worst of academic-brain. Like, yes, writing is not essential to higher-order thinking; western imperialists imposed literacy as a weapon and deemed cultures lacking alphabetic writing as inferior. It’s true!

Not a joke. This literal toddler is too good at a *competitive game* (he's amazing) so the fragile AF league (?) thought something at the intersection of criminalization + calling the people known to endanger Black lives was the appropriate response to this must be white + cis to play sports now

They called the cops on this 3-year-old Black boy because he was kickin the white kids' ass on the soccer field.

Deplatforming fascists works. Refusing them the audience beyond the roachholes they already occupy, peopled with amoral and immoral lost causes, works. Continue to deny opportunities to fascists.

Been reading about a lot of very bad but entirely ordinary people throughout history for the next season of Past Lives (Everyday Villains). This guy is utterly typical. 1) Doesn't think he's doing anything wrong. 2) Permission structure in a system of hierarchical authority. 3) Benefits materially.

correct states further down the path of autocracy than us have had those autocracies overthrown by sufficiently large voting numbers recently we can do it here too

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

The US is not about to have a free and fair election. The state has put its thumb on the scale to favor the ruling party in multiple ways. It's a mostly free, somewhat unfair election. But still one where the ruling party can be overwhelmed by numbers. Hence the term "competitive authoritarianism."

"whatever"? No, friend, words have meanings. the root of משל/mshl is "rule over". Dude was mad that a Rabbinics expert didn't give him the answer he wanted based on his English translations and assumptions so he ignored him. ... facts don't care about feelings

This is something we get accused of surprisingly often and all I can say is: yes. Good. I am here to destroy the hopes and dreams of husbands who don't think they have to add value to their wife's life.

Sad to see Walter Koenig died. We are down to Kirk and Sulu! I feel like the passage of time has faded the quality and importance of the original Star Trek. And TNG for that matter. Those accursed movie reboots from the late-oughts didn’t help.

I could spend the rest of my life analysing this feedback sign in the local Home Bargains. Did 'not happy' break from overuse? Was it taped over to ensure 100% positive feedback? Is the green 'b' in 'feedback' some kind of subliminal nudge? Is the duck tape indent because people still keep pressing?
