It remains inexplicable that @captmarkkelly.bsky.social won't cosponsor the #DCStatehood bill or at least openly take a stand on the issue. It's a matter of right vs. wrong, democracy vs. colonialism, fairness vs. injustice. Sen. Kelly needs to stand up for democracy and the people of D.C.

#DCStatehood is the right thing. 700,000 people live in DC. We have more people than in VT or WY. We pay more in taxes than over 22 states. We are taxed without representation yet we fulfill all obligations of citizenship. The PEOPLE of DC deserve equality & we deserve statehood.

Making American more perfect has had us fight a Civil War, make constitutional changes to ensure voting rights for African Americans, Women and people over 18, make legislative changes to enforce the constitutional right to vote and have equitable access to voting...

...and, we've added 37 states to the union since our founding. Making America more perfect isn't easy & we definitely all don't agree on what that means, but to the 700,000 people in D.C. that means making us the 51st state. The people of DC deserve #DCStatehood. We hope you'll join us.

Our country's mandate, laid out in the Constitution, is to "form a more perfect union." Originally, it needed to be more perfect than the Articles of Confederation. Since that time we have needed to make it more perfect, inclusive, and just for those left out of our democratic system.

The mayor, Council, and Home Rule itself could be repealed by Congress where we have no voting representation. Local laws can be and have been overturned by Congress. We DO NOT have voting representation in Congress for the FEDERAL taxes we pay and we pay more federal taxes than at least 22 states.

Today President Trump signed the resolution approved by Congress that repeals a D.C. bill that decoupled the local tax code from some provisions of the federal tax code. It's only the fifth time in the last 50 years that a D.C. bill has been repealed by Congress.

So 56,000 Greenlanders who may not even want to be part of the U.S. would get statehood, but 700,000 D.C. residents who are already Americans but don’t enjoy the same democratic rights as all others won’t get it?

As we close out 2025, we can honestly say it was a pretty shitty year for DC. Unprecedented attacks on Home Rule took place, exposing the fallacy of the term Home Rule. Never forget that #DCStatehood is the ultimate goal of DC residents who seek an equal footing & place in our democracy.

And in 2026, we need to go on offense. DC residents & our allies around the country need to work our butts off to ensure there are #DCStatehood supporting majorities in the House & Senate. We don't just need allies protecting Home Rule, we need allies with an all hands on deck pursuit of statehood.

Just as there have been lots of attacks on Home Rule, the movement for #DCStatehood continues to make progress. There are now 200+ cosponsors on the #DCStatehood bill in the House but there's more cosponsors to gain! www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...

There are still troops in the streets of DC, pretty much doing nothing. It's not crime prevention, it's for show. It's an unnecessary waste of time and money (LOTS OF TAXPAYER MONEY). These troops should be at home with their families and back in their own communities, not ours.
