I changed my handle, as I own the domain ‘64ordle.au’ which is quicker to type than ‘catherine-cowie.bsky.social’. I hope y’all understand. The current avatar photo was taken on 4 July 2022, and the banner picture more recently at a TMBG concert – a funny thing happened on the way to the forum …

It seems like an appropriate time to post this… archiveofourown.org/works/940210... A robot costume discovered in mint condition in the back rooms of #Dorley provides a grave puzzle. And Halloween is just around the corner… what could possibly go wrong? (Conclusion chapter released tomorrow.)

Cis people, read this post. The UK is NOT a safe place for trans people anymore, and it will only change for the better when cis people stand up for us. I’ve written polemics, I’ve written fiction to highlight how bad things are over there, but it won’t make any difference if cis people don’t help.

Burnham had the opportunity to reject the EHRC guidance which was tabled in Westminster in July/August. He did not. Burnham had the opportunity to reject the KCSIE guidance for Department of Education schools any time before September. He has failed protecting trans people’s rights in the UK.

It’s Section 28 all over again in the UK. In some future time, there will have to be an apology to trans people whose lives have been blighted by this fascist curtailment of their freedoms. But I don’t see any hope of the perpetrators of it ever seeing one solitary consequence of their cruelty.

I can’t underline more that the most dire changes underway there were set in motion by Kier Starmer, but actually became ‘guidance’ and ‘policy’ that was allowed to pass into regulatory norms under the Andy Burnham regime, which is now, unquestionably, the most transphobic UK government in history.

The hilarious thing about being queer is that sometimes they do shit like this to you /before you’re even aware that you’re queer/. That’s what happened to 13-y-o prepubescent me. Oh sorry, ambiguous meaning of hilarious (depends on your point of view)

alyson “october” greaves@badambulist.bsky.social

male socialisation is when they hold you down and [cut footage of trans girl’s entire childhood and teen years] and after a while you stop even crying because what would be the point

“It is very appalling and sometimes quite frightening to see how trans-exclusionary feminists have allied with rightwing attacks on gender” Today is exactly 5 years since @theguardian.com censored the words of non-binary academic, Judith Butler. These are the censored words. Still valid now.

Dear BBC News, If you'd like to actually fulfill your mandate to inform the public of the reasons people take small boats please feel free to invite me onto any of your shows. I'm a world expert in this with an award winning book on the topic. Or you can just have a man stood shouting in the sea.

This is appalling, as though Auntie had decided to berate the survivors from the SIEV-X. Australia‘s ‘stop the boats’ anti-immigration racism has begotten so many illegitimate children. Abolish the BBC.

I feel like there’s something deeply, deeply tragic that Terry Gilliam, the Brazil / Munchausen / Don Quixote guy, who spent his career celebrating the triumph of human imagination and possibility over the “realistic”, became a TERF in his old age. Eventually just switched sides to join forces…

The S4C public-service Welsh-language news managed to get through a whole interview feature and article on the same trans person denied healthcare without mentioning "biological sex" or a 29-year-old's lost breastfeeding opportunities, btw The BBC specifically is making a choice here

Charlotte Lydia Riley@lottelydia.bsky.social

"would mean, for example, that Jewell would not be able to breastfeed in the future" this person is TWENTY NINE YEARS OLD and the BBC is scaremongering about their choice not to breastfeed a baby that they do not have and have given no indication of ever wanting to have

Yes. This isn’t about separating art from the artist. This is about the fact that if you watch or give any attention to this show (including piracy) you are putting money into a bigotry machine. You’re literally funding hate.

The Verge@theverge.com

As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.

It seems both cowardly and exploitative of the Bigoted Bullies Corporation (BBC) to relaunch The Infinite Monkey Cage like so, without explaining why Robin Ince *isn’t* involved. Boycott the BBC.

Robin Ince@robinince.bsky.social

I just saw the press release of The Infinite Monkey Cage and kept thinking, “wasn’t there a presenter before all this who named it and greatly shaped the show?” , and then, after much head scratching, I remembered, “it was me!” Patreon.com/robinince

The new ‘Keep Children Safe In Education’ guidance that effectively requires transphobic segregation of trans students in UK schools, takes effect tomorrow, 1 September 2026. The UK government has stripped trans youth of medical care, and now they’re going to make their lives a misery in education.

I don’t think a lot of cis people in the UK realise just how horrifying this repressive environment is going to be for trans children and youth. I wrote a few stories to flesh out how bad it could possibly be, but I feel sure it will be worse in practice. archiveofourown.org/collections/...

But, but, but… That opinion piece in The Atlantic *told me* that “Sorry America: Donald Trump Is Too Funny To Be a Fascist”, so how are we to reconcile this genocidal piece of eliminationist rhetoric except as pretending to be a lil bit fascist for “fun” on Fox. /sarcasm Actually not fun. At all.

Someday soon hes going to be over and trans folk will continue to exist and, hopefully, thrive, for as long as there are humans on this planet.

Trans human rights should not be dependent in any way on biology At the same time, the science is pretty clear that transgender modality is a natural phenomenon

Monozygotic (MZ) or identical twins are significantly more likely to both be trans (21.2%, 47/222) than the case of dizygotic (DZ) of non-identical twins (8.7%, 21/241), out of 463 twin pairs, suggesting genetics *does* play some part contributing to gender identity. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Since non-identical (DZ) twins can be same or different sexes, it’s worth noting that these sub-cohorts of same (9.2%, 12/131) and different (8.2%, 9/110) sexed twins had fairly similar rates. The researchers /note/ that anti-trans campaigners usually write trans identity off as a social construct.

Twin studies like this tend to suggest the opposite is true, that while there isn’t a complete etiology for the nature of gender identity, that the variant results for identical twins suggest that genetics *does* play some significant part.

In a brief moment while the kids are out the house I'm having a quick cry before regrouping, making plans A, B and C, and trying to act like the responsible adult in the room who has got clear solutions to systemic oppression and eliminationist violence.

We are working towards alternative options but those options haven't yet worked out. It's really scary and stressful. Most of all it's deeply sad. She has actually been happy at school. That happiness has been stolen from her.
