To be clear, this is "Walk & Roll to School Day", put on by the National Center for Safe Routes to School. That is *different* than "Bike & Roll to School Day" in the spring, put on by the Safe Routes Partnership. Why are two competing events being put on by similar organizations? Not sure

Regionalism has helped Japan’s Innovation Party gain influence on a national scale, but will this core value be enough to continue its momentum? Nagatomi explores whether the Innovation Party can compete with Japan’s center in the long run. apjjf.org/2026/8/nagat...
This is amazing and fantastic and every NHL team should be racing to develop this tech and get it installed in as big of an area as possible in their rinks. If you think of it, there is such a big advantage for hockey to be able to embed stuff over other sports! news.sportslogos.net/2026/09/18/o...

"Clement, Clement, hands of cement" is my favorite set of words, so important to remember tonight was that Melrose was the one actually picked in that Hockey Falls spot youtu.be/YGN5Gl0vQIc?...
The early days of my hockey fandom started with 2. RIP Barry Melrose
Really excited for standardized EXIT designations and signage to be rolled out system wide. The integration with Google Maps and the first round of exit labeling has been a game changer at Metro Center already when exits of the same station can be miles apart.
👆The signs above are just the first part of a six-week installation process! By the end of October, every sign inside and outside the station will be replaced with our updated design.
The Hirshhorn Museum is one of my favorite spaces, so I'm excited that this Garden revamp is about to open. Obviously a challenging project since this is its 3rd iteration since the 70's, but Sugimoto-san is up for the challenge of pulling it all together I hope. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/07/g...
If that name sounds familiar, well, you're probably thinking of his intensely inventive photography, which is just some of my favorite stuff ever, and you should go paw through immediately. Plus I met him once and he was nice! www.sugimotohiroshi.com/artworks
As someone who has done a smattering of food photography over the years, it's fascinating how many of the basic principles of that form are violated in images like these. It's a narrow, predictable aesthetic, would guess models could rip that off!
Just. WHY would you advertise your catering with all AI-generated images? The food look like rubber!

Much love to optimus prime but honestly toonami's promos are my enduring memory of the late great Peter Cullen. The way he lent such a sense of gravitas to their anime lineup really made young Gee feel like he was watching something truly special.
Sorry to hear of Yayoi Kusama's passing, one of the world's most unique artists. She *saw* those dots and those patterns and she shared them with us to feel a bit less lonely about it. Loved photographing her work here in DC, from KenCen to the Hirshhorn. www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2026...
And definitely all retrospectives of Kusama need to deal with the bizarre anti-black stuff that popped up in her writing, which just cuts against the potential universality of her work. www.artnews.com/art-news/new...
5. Wiggum: No, no, dig up stupid! 4. Ralph: Me fail English? That’s unpossible. 3. Homer: A $20 bill can buy many peanuts. Money can be exchanged for goods and services. 2. Bart: Don’t do what Donnie Don’t does 1. Homer: You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.
The five Simpsons lines I’ve uttered most: 5) Milhouse: My Dad’s a pretty big wheel down at the cracker victory 4) McBain: Ice To See You 3) You Don’t Get Friends with Salad 2) Homer: And who can forget rat boy? 1) Comic Book Guy: “Is there a word in Klingon for lonliness? Oh yes. ‘Aag-plach!’”
As a bit of a photographer, I despair at how many honestly prefer this look, this Dead World where the skies are blue, but shadows are somehow soft. Where the sidewalks don't have gum stuck on them. Where the lighting, fonts, and people are all Stock. Where wrinkles are only on people Old Enough.
Facebook showed me a page that posts AI written posts accompanied by AI generated images of Austin tourist destinations and city landmarks that look nothing like the actual locations and it's more unsettling than most other AI content I've seen a repulsive hyperreal imitation of the city i live in
As it happens though, Rory actually already put all that feeling on a shirt, which does cheer me up a bit so: rawpaw.ink/products/inf...

This is a really...thing-focused perspective. I wrote about exactly this in my book HOW INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS -- the quotidian luxury of our homes compared to the past -- and I still think the real change is our *collective* infrastructural systems for electricity, water, communications, and more.
This is a really beautiful website by @jdworkin.bsky.social on the everyday household items that were once only dreamt about – a music player, nightlight, family photos, clean water, ice, spices, and more. 10/10 would recommend exploring it! ordinaryabundance.com
In the "solutions" sections of this and other pieces like it, I never see anything like "Women having kids is tremendously important, so country X is paying them how much its worth to everyone". Free childcare, free healthcare, plus $25k/kid tax free would move the needle, lets try that.

correct. Finland driving culture is incredibly easy and safe because of the ubiquitous speed cameras (and well designed streets) heatmap.news/politics/hel...
Driving a car is incredibly dangerous, it should be one of the most regulated experiences on earth, and it is very upsetting to watch people who correctly don’t trust the cops turn against automated enforcement because the alternative is relying on a cop’s judgement to enforce the laws.
