Going to revival screenings of Tristar movies and screaming when the logo pegasus gets too close to the camera

Oh god. Eric Bauza is dead at only 46. A generational voice talent, and a crushing loss. To think, his brilliant work in COYOTE VS ACME was almost deleted for a tax write-off. RIP

That’s right. If the whole point of “moderating” on trans issues is to appeal to centrists and conservatives, what’s the problem? Surely you’ll make up all those lost votes with the dickheads who don’t like trans people.

Ian Boudreau@ianboudreau.com

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

Sincerely trying not to be too optimistic about the midterms. But…I’m kind of optimistic that maybe how fucking awful the GOP is might actually be punished? I dunno man!

HOLY CAMP!: A truly odd little movie that took me by surprise. A girl at a Catholic summer camp sees god, and he sings Whitney Houston songs. From this very silly premise is spun a story of sincere faith & desire. It's scrappy, touching and full of wonderful performances. I can't recommend it enough

The CDC might take away a key data source on Long COVID and ME. You have until this Tuesday, October 20, to tell them why that would be a mistake. The advocacy group Solve ME has put together a script that people can use to leave a comment: solvecfs.org/cdc-me-cfs-l...

this guy is single handedly going to end racism by just making everyone fucking sick of it

Trump: "You go up to Minnesota -- number one place in the entire country for the sale of Mercedes-Benz. And Somalians are buying them. They come here with low IQs and no money and they get rich. Do we feel stupid? Our fraud division is getting them all."

Seeing lots of angry user reviews for MOTOR CITY on Prime, all of them furious that the movie has almost no dialogue, complaining that it’s some artsy-fartsy rip-off. This is a movie in which Alan Ritchson fires a shotgun through the windshield of a speeding car. It’s not fucking SOLARIS.

The part of the election runup where every day brings videos of Trump getting up in front of some battleground audience in his dumb hat and going "frankly you're terrible people, really disgusting. A bunch of stupid people and their awful kids. [long break for laughter and applause] Ugly as shit,"

STREET FIGHTER: A relentless earsplitting neon assault of a live-action cartoon that cycles through plot and characters so quickly you might start to worry you’ve stroked out and missed something. Stumbling out into the night, shellshocked, I realize I may love it.

Points for femdom flourishes. Points docked for giving Don Lee nothing to do. Points put back on for leaning into how gay this all is, how staggeringly gay. The gay jokes aren’t even homophobic. They’re just extremely gay.

Oh and my boy Vidyut Jammwal shows up as Dhalsim and, in stark contrast to the way Hollywood movies usually use Bollywood actors, gets to do a bunch of cool shit. His razor-sharp charisma and physical grace make an impression. More of this please.

republicans: we will lower taxes voters: damn these guys really understand the economy republicans: *cartwheel the economy into a woodchipper* voters: democrats should fix this probably democrats: *start gluing chips back together* republicans: we will lower taxes voters: damn these guys r—

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Americans trust the Democratic Party more than Republicans “to keep the country prosperous,” marking the Democratic party’s first clear lead with voters on the economic issue in more than a decade in Gallup’s annual governance poll.

NIGHTMARE AT NOON: A mad scientist infects the water supply of a small town in Utah with a rage virus, and the only thing that can save the day is blowing up dozens of cars. Probably Nico Mastorakis’ best crafted film, a jamboree of stunts that climaxes with an awesomely unmotivated copter chase.

If you ever wondered what THE CRAZIES would look like as a completely unhinged western, this is it. It doesn’t really have any downtime, just skips from fistfight to gunfight to explosion. Wings Hauser in a lower key than usual, but he brings his inimitable flavor to even the smallest moments.

does anyone involved in AI understand how fucking boring it would be if all your entertainment was customized like do they get how much that would fucking suck

When a big name does this, it actually means something.

I refuse to be a doomer, firstly because what the fuck good am I to anyone if I shrug at All Of This, and secondly because I see people waking up. We may not agree on everything, but if we can agree that public executions are a violation of everything that makes us human, I’ll start there.

Joey is a human now, so he’s basically toast. Liam Stepford is a literal robot and a catty bitch. He has moves. Give him a knife and it’s over.

Maybe @abegoldfarb.bsky.social has an opinion on this, but The Stranger had a lot of experience dying and coming back to life. So at the very least he would go through distance.

Ugh still thinking about DIGGER. Yesterday I thought it was a fuming and contemptuous. Today I think it’s one of the saddest movies I’ve seen in a long while. An elegy that sincerely hopes it’s not an elegy. A movie that asks “what’s the point?” and genuinely wants to know what you think.

Being the devil’s advocate is dumb as hell, he’s the devil, he’s constantly doing mischiefs, he’s not moping around all day like “will no one advocate for me 👿”

The entire cast of DIGGER is doing a Brechtian tightrope walk and they all ace it, though Goodman and Plemons are on fucking fire. And then there’s the Cruise of it all. He’s fucking mesmerizing. His action star makeover has made it easy to forget that he’ll absolutely destroy a character turn.

It’s really weird how much DIGGER critique is focusing on the economics (am I supposed to be mad that a big studio blew hundreds of millions of dollars on a genuinely weird movie?) and how much seems to be ragging on a movie Ińaritu expressly did not make.

In DIGGER, it’s too late. The world is broken, and its greatest villain is selling catharsis to pacify its inhabitants. I don’t think Iñárritu believes art is pointless and that we’re all doomed. But I do think he’s scared. This is not doomerism. It’s the impotent terror of being a human.

DIGGER MEGA-SPOILERS HEREIN “Ińaritu is delivering a shrill lecture to an audience of his perceived inferiors while profiting from the very system that immiserates them!!” Actually that’s what Jesse Plemons’ character is doing. Ińaritu is looking on in horror and shame.

DIGGER: A movie that eats itself alive, which understands that it cannot fulfill its own purpose and decides to be about the horrible impossibility of that. A howl of contempt and despair bankrolled by the very people it hates. It is also somehow wildly entertaining. It hates that, too. I loved it.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen trailers hide a movie’s actual subject the way DIGGER’s did. Like the movie itself stands explicitly in opposition to the kind of movie they sold it as. It’s surreal.
