New preprint! Universities increasingly expect academics to practise open science. But is it rewarded when hiring? We analysed 1,356 academic job ads from Norwegian institutions and found that <5% of ads mentioned open science as a required or desired qualification osf.io/preprints/ps...

If you ever wanted to know how an inaugural lecture works in the Netherlands, or what I talked about in mine, I put the materials here. I talked about bottlenecks of diagnostic systems, problems of clinical and scientific utility, and how to make a better DSM-6. eiko-fried.com/blog/my-inau...

The Tetris Company says it owns the pieces in Tetris, but there’s one problem: Those geometric forms were described decades before Tetris existed. Julien Mailland details the game’s Kafkaesque journey from Soviet labs to “capitalist copywrongs.”
Thank heavens that Queens of the Stone Age have a massive discography because that is apparently the only music I can progress my writing to (everyone welcome to the goth manuscript factory) www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAOI...
@jonicoleman.bsky.social I've just sent you an email about case-case ED sumstats, it may have landed in your spam! Thanks!

Supposed to finish a paper today. I have just finished editing the intro, which means that I still have to edit methods and results, the two most difficult sections (my methods have a statistics supplement going on for 15 pages...), and write the discussion. Big L, dear chat, also brain not detected
It's one of those levels of unfairness that are truly unimportant in the grand scheme of fascism, but, like, non-men are constantly pushed, emotionally and financially, to look "polished" and all these politicians get to look like... this, just because? It upsets me every time, as tiny as it is
When they eventually make a movie about this time, please don't put the male politicians in good suits. IMO, the ugly, low rent tailoring should be part of the story.
The main discussion should be that the sanctions are much too little, too late, and this is just low (and I am saying this as a person born in the area of Poland heavily impacted by the Holocaust, and the Milibands were Polish Jews)
Ed Miliband’s parents survived the Holocaust, Ed Miliband is Jewish - that is immutable Questioning his Jewishness like this tells you all you need to know about people like this, and what their values are - and what they truly think about Jewish people that don’t behave how they want them to

Modern academic structures are constraining scientific creativity A new paper says research is structured around short funding cycles, productivity-based evaluation criteria, and risk-averse frameworks that favor predictable and non-transformative research outputs. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The joke itself is funny but the fact that about half of the mocking British English jokes underneath is conversations I have with my American wife is giving me pause (I am an Eastern European with a weird accent, no posh British, I promise)
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei announced today that the AI firm’s previously-unannounced flagship model “was British this time.” Amodei went on to say “this one turned out British this time”, explaining: “It just got more British during training. So watch out for that.”

Hilariously, romantic rejections through the years & my current partner are v whatever about Interpol, but it's autumnal weather here, so it is time to say it, as every fall, you will always have my heart, the silly melodramatic sexy persona of Paul Banks from Antics www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Jeq...
