became that we should celebrate UK citizens living and working abroad. The obvious follow up question would be - why is it great for British people to live and work abroad, but bad for people from abroad to live and work in the UK?

Reporting on @bbcnewsuk.bsky.social this morning that inflation will knock the chancellor’s budget plans off course. There is of course some truths in this BUT unlike a household budget as well as costs inflation does bring some benefits to the chancellor. As prices rise, the amount received from

People are fed up with privatised water companies letting us down and ripping us off. We deserve a real conversation about public ownership. Can you help build pressure by asking your MP to attend this crucial debate on water ownership? actionnetwork.org/letters/ask-...

I am currently reading for review the brilliantly written ‘How to win a Trade War’ by @soumayakeynes.ft.com and Chad Bown. It is very rare that an economics book makes me laugh out loud, but I tried to read page 74 to my wife and I couldn’t get the words out because I was laughing so much.

‘Our exam system suffers from conflating the need to rank with the need to show achievement.’ Excellent and very sensible thread from @jillongovt.bsky.social

for things like going to uni we need ways of ranking students. But for most things - jobs, life, etc we need to make sure that students leave school with demonstrated capabilities across a wide range of academic and non-academic skills.

Former UK foreign secretary David Miliband, on Radio 4 Today Programme, summed up the Labour government’s fundamental problem this morning in a single , pithy , analytical sentence: ‘the things they promised not to do are stopping the things they promised to do.’

youtu.be/e3E7WK33ykE Want to know how an inspection went in central London earlier this year and how Ofsted responded? It’s not a pretty picture. May not be indicative of all inspections but when they go wrong the consequences are serious and deeply troubling.

All true and I doubt my disgust with Starmer is for the same reasons as those who voted Reform last week - his pathetic ‘red lines on Europe’ and his lack of any conscience in slashing international aid condemning many to preventable suffering and even death.

Liberal Democrats are proud to serve their community. We don’t sow division; we fix potholes and church roofs, and we always sweat the small things.

🔶 Vote Liberal Democrat this Thursday to elect a local champion for your community. 🗳️

It must be a sign of my aging that I just can’t get excited by NASA astronauts stopping short of what NASA astronauts did several times around 56 to 54 years ago when they actually walked on the moon.

Warning to anyone with @virginmediatv.bsky.social Just wasted a morning on 3 separate phone calls. Received a ‘free upgrade’ to a Virginmedia 360 box replacing our perfectly acceptable TiVo box in our bedroom. Having installed it we discovered we could no longer record because the 360 box has no

Hard disk. We were advised to reconnect the Tivo if we wanted a facility to record programmes, and were assured it would still work fine. 3rd call resulted in us being told it was impossible for the TiVo box to work now. So, we have no way of saving anything on the upstairs TV.
