Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme by Helen Bennett is: #AwesomeOwls These long-eared owls were raising their two fledglings last year on trees between houses in my area of Berlin - not outskirts, but near an large open area (former airport Tempelhofer Feld). The fledglings were screeching a lot! 🙂

"This could have been an email." Aragorn whispers. "He ALWAYS pulls this shit in 'Any Other Business" Boromir replies, quietly. "It's why Faramir marked himself as busy when the invite went out."

Elrond tells the long story of the One Ring, from its forging in the Mountain of Fire, to its betrayal of Isildur at the Gladden Fields. Frodo is startled to learn that Elrond himself marched with Gil-Galad in the Last Alliance against Sauron, more than three thousand years ago.

As I've said before, it's only once I became a professor that I realized the entmoot, a meeting that goes on for three days and three nights, was a professor's joke about faculty meetings.

Kieran Healy@kjhealy.co

The Lord of the Rings is essentially a series of faculty meetings broken up by several long walks in the countryside.

Don’t allow anyone to tell you that there’s “no market” for a career as the eccentric yet mysterious owner of a quaint bookstore on a cobblestone side street in Edinburgh that doubles as a café, triples as a bakery, and quadruples as a cat rescue.

I dust my house. My AI Robot watches. "It should be you doing this." "Can't. I'm writing a novel for Primark." "That's not why you were invented." "These 153,000 fan letters say otherwise." "They're all from upcycled toasters. And you programmed them." "Literary snobbery will get you nowhere."

Some experts say the cats have been fed. Speak to the cats themselves, however, and you'll hear a different story. One that may shock you. On our new, six part podcast, we ask the big question: In the war between experts and cats... ...just who can we truly believe?

Y'all ever wonder if there are aliens with pictures of us freaking the fuck out during a planetary species health check and share it around galactic Twitter like "this one was so cute! He didn't know he was safe! They're called Fukfuks after the noise they make!"

This owl was getting banded and tagged by the Rocky Point Bird Observatory. For the owl’s safety, he/she was wrapped up. These photos…🤣🦉. So cute.

Atlantic Birding’s #BirdOfTheDay theme today is: #Black&White; any bird with Black & White plumage Alt. is #Colourful The #Black&White Magpie enjoyed this natural perch on the birch with its black & white bark. Before, I caught the bird showing the moulting patch on its neck.

Happy 🇨🇦 Thanksgiving, however you choose to celebrate.
Norman here was seen tucking into a tasty abandoned hornets’ nest this morning — so each to his or her own, gastronomically speaking, I guess. 🤪 #crows

I think we, as scientists, should start signing off our emails better than "Thanks" or "Sincerely". I'm gonna start with a rotation of "In enantiomeric excess," "Catalytically inert," and "In Silico" (when sent from my phone). I'll add more if there are any good suggestions.

Today is World Migratory Bird Day. Please say hello to the Pfeilstorch (‘arrow stork’). In 1822 this bird was shot in the German village of Klütz. It already had a 30-inch arrow in its neck. The arrow was made of African wood, and this bird played a pivotal role in our understanding of migration.

Outside the window, the Green Woodpecker appears totally confident that he's hiding on the right side of the trunk and can't be seen. Note the red patch in the middle of the black mustache, signifying it's a male.
