Amazing that the GOP and its state media managed to convince most of their voters that a myth like gender reassignment surgery in schools is a bigger threat than something actually happening and killing children—school shootings

Jess Piper@piperformissouri.bsky.social

As a former teacher, I never scrubbed in for a gender reassignment surgery, but I did instruct the kids on how to get the window screens off in case of an active shooter…

If you commit multiple serious crimes, you might die in jail. That’s not hard to understand. That’s called consequences

Matthew Hay Brown@matthewhaybrown.bsky.social

“Flávio has given up,” a Bolsonaro family adviser told The Washington Post. “He’s terrified. He is worried his father will die in jail, that he himself will be jailed this week, and that he may have a long prison term ahead”

Beyond being counterproductive for housing affordability, this system is inherently more likely to result in favoritism, clientelism, and, at times, corruption

Boston’s chief planner is a true believer in the San Francisco model, in which you make it impossible to profitably build apartments by-right so developers are forced into a politicized discretionary negotiation with the city, which relaxes the rules in exchange for below-market units.

Not only does this system lead to more corruption, but it also shifts the blame from the public sector (that created the broken system) to the developers. The “greedy developers” narrative is often linked to the need for these discretionary approvals

A key priority of a future Dem administration should be regulating social media platforms - especially X and the Meta ones - to reduce the odds of foreign interference and the use of algorithms to push the interests of one party - hello, Elon

Adam Schwarz@adamjschwarz.bsky.social

Lula: "We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world. We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."

What is pretty incredible is that many metros have gone from being oversupplied in 2010 (left; due to the pre-2008 construction boom) to undersupplied in 2020 (right). The Wasatch Front is one of the regions that went from somewhat oversupplied in 2010 to very undersupplied in 2020

Odd that right-wingers in other countries just concede when they lose elections. They don’t try to foment an insurrection to overturn the results

“We are in a climate emergency!” “Too many people die in traffic crashes!” We surely don’t act like we take any of those issues seriously

I’m just so over the people in San Diego that prioritize driving over every other option. It’s why San Diego has the highest rate of car collisions in California and second highest in the United States. I worked down the street.

I find these “Vote super El Niño” signs cringe. Sure I’d love a big winter with tons of snow. But I’d love even more if we could stop the current fascist government.

I'd never thought I'd see a pro-housing mayor in Los Angeles, but there's a very good chance this year. Please support Nithya Raman if you're a voter in the City of Los Angeles

Dems should run ads calling the GOP “the party of data centers” because it’s who they are. Data centers are creating so much disruption and damage that it’s time to regulate them like power plants and landfills—environmental hazards

sltrib.com‘I literally just leave my house’: In this Utah neighborhood, homeowners say a noisy data center campus is disrupting their livesGenerators at the data center campus fire up at all hours, making it hard to sleep or enjoy their homes and yards, they say.

Thrilled to share an article 2+ years in the works just published in Landscape and Urban Planning. We study whether NGOs contribute to urban green space equity. We find that more studies show that NGOs contribute to equitable outcomes than studies highlighting the opposite, with some nuances.

We also found that NGOs are more often linked to procedural equity than to recognitional and distributional equity. We also show that research design, geographic context, and NGO type matter in whether they advance green space equity. And we identify pathways through which NGOs affect equity.

I dropped off my ballot at a secure ballot dropbox on my way to work. Feels great. If you're on the fence about your Dem candidate, please go out and vote blue. I voted for Ben McAdams (a moderate) even though my views are much more progressive on many issues. This isn't the time to be picky.

Remember that staying at home or voting for a third-party candidate helps ensure that the current administration can continue the harms they've been bringing on so many communities without any checks. A solidly blue Congress can do a lot of good in the next two years.

A student shared this 2014 op-ed about the now very successful Provo-Orem bus rapid transit in Utah. Back in 2014, the project was being discussed, and it eventually opened in 2018. The author begins the piece with, "The family unit is under attack right here in Provo." Incredible stuff.

deseret.comRapid Transit in Provo: Family friendly?Lately, the single most important, most expensive, and most controversial issue Provo City has ever faced (and may ever face) is the implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit system (or BRT).

John, Tommy, Donald, Chad, Jared, Tim, JD, Dick... that's all the same. We should just call all white American guys John or Chad.

Trump: "If you call somebody from that part of the world 'Mohammed,' you're about 65% sure to get it right. So if you have any problem with names, just call the guy Mohammed, you'll probably be right."

The oilsands are at the centre of the separatist conversation, but the people who live and work there say they are on the periphery of Alberta's politics. @zoemas0n.bsky.social travelled to Fort McMurray to gauge the appeal of separatism in Alberta’s oilpatch.

In addition to Alberta’s separatist nonsense, here are a few more (not a comprehensive list) - Iraq war, first and second. - Iran war in 2026 - Strikes on Venezuela - In part, Ukraine war

I generally don’t ride a bike on stroads, but sometimes they’re the only option or fastest option. Thus the argument that bike infrastructure only belongs on secondary streets is BS. It’s not an uncommon narrative unfortunately
