This year's record setting El Niño will impact many different parts of the world, with some experiencing severe drought and others flooding. In a new analysis at The Climate Brink, I explore what impacts happened during past events and which are most likely to occur this year

theclimatebrink.comThe impacts of this year’s record-shattering El NiñoEl Niño will drive severe drought from Indonesia to the Southern Africa and northern South America, with wetter winters from the US Gulf Coast to Southern South America.

If you want 1.5C, 1.8C, 2C, overshoot, no-overshoot, etc, then they all require the same thing: rapid short-term emission reductions reaching net zero CO2 emissions as soon as possible. This has been clear from the IPCC Special Report on 1.5C, which depicts "overshoot" on its cover! 1/

I wrote my thoughts about the current heatwave in Europe in a small post. I think there could be something potentially positive in the fact that Europe was hit by the heatwave this summer, as "positive" as it can be when people, animals, life, nature suffer... alexborger.com/blog/europe-...

alexborger.comSummer 2026, Heatwave in Europe — alexborger.com | Alex BorgerI think there is something potentially positive in the fact that Europe was hit by the heatwave this summer: it can help raise much more awareness of climate change.

Hey guys, if you are interested in computational life: I have built CLR a Computational Life Reactor to run experiments. It’s an interactive browser implementation of the computational-life experiments studied by Agüera y Arcas (Google) and collaborators (watch mlst/YouTube). 1/4

CLR provides live population visualizations, frequency and compression measurements, and a step-by-step execution sampler. The simulation runs locally using WebAssembly and parallel browser workers. 3/4

How it works: Random byte tapes are repeatedly paired and executed in the BFF language, allowing self-replicating programs to emerge without a fitness function or explicit selection process. 2/4

Interactive AI playgrounds for learning neural networks, machine learning. I've created a handful of interactive playgrounds during my AI studies. They’ve been incredibly helpful for my learning and understanding of AI concepts. 1/3

Today I'm sharing two of those (more coming): - Neuron Lab: Interactive lab showing how a single artificial neuron computes. - Gradient Descent Lab: How a neuron learns. Gradient descent, step by step. 2/3

The carbon budget for holding 1.5 °C is almost gone, yet the path is known: emissions must fall to net zero by 2032 to limit warming to 1.5 °C, or by 2050 to limit it to 1.7 °C. The hard part is whether a species clever enough to measure the danger is wise enough to answer it.

Claude Fable 5 (nee Mythos) is out today. One of the ways I like to test new models is by giving them daily global temperature data (ERA5) and asking them to come up with some creative and compelling visualizations. Here is how Fable did!
