Democrats are responsible for the truth AND for the lies Republicans tell about them. Republicans are responsible for nothing.

Michael Hobbes@michaelhobbes.bsky.social

As usual the article is about a deranged bigoted backlash to a Democrat but concludes that Democrats need to do better.

you know how there are literature and journalism prizes? i propose that we introduce a system of literature and journalism demerits. if you do bad gonzo journalism that turns you into a mouthpiece for big tech it should earn your book a demerit that appears on the cover like prize stickers do

Everything is trash but I'm in a doctor's office waiting room and there's a baby that is ANGRY and total strangers in like three languages are praising it and trying to make it smile. Mom and Dad speak Spanish but baby seems to like this old Polish lady the best.

Apparently what we needed all this time was an affable old man and whole bunch of weird little freaks like some kind of unhinged baseball Muppets going out every night to put on a show.

With Illinois it's kind of like "which other Midwestern state do we hate the least" so I guess I can see Iowa. Wisconsin does not love Minnesota but fucking HATES Illinois and Michigan. I don't understand Michigan's supposed affinity for Florida, nor anyone else's really.

As we approach the midterms, remember that the Alt National Park Service is a merch sales operation claiming without evidence to be a group of federal employees, and is not a genuine source of news about elections of any kind. Please get your election info from a local, reputable source.

I am actually fucking sick of movies and shows about terrible people doing terrible things. I don't want to watch documentaries about scumbags and scam artists. I don't want to listen to 400 true crime podcasts. I am fucking full up of gawping as it all falls apart.

There are so many heroes we know next to nothing about. There are so many people fighting and pushing and making things better. I want to spend more time with them in my head instead of being told to giggle at some fucking criminal because cRiNgE Hum0r or something.

It is starting to feel on a societal scale like those episodes of America's Funniest Home Videos where little kids fall off bikes or hit their dads in the nuts with golf balls. It is cackling at suffering and I'm fucking tired of it.

I am not fascinated by people who lie and steal and cheat and take others for a ride. This is not interesting. This is not a commentary on anything other than that some people fucking, fucking suck and get away with it. Sondheim and Shakespeare settled this. We're good.

I would distract angry ghost ben franklin by telling him about the concept of onlyfans

Everything is heinous but this morning on the train three little kids with backpacks bigger than they were sang the alphabet song and when they got done the homeless fellow behind them clapped for them.

I know I say this every day about something that comes out of his rathole of a face but: wut.

Heckler: You protected pedophiles! 👺Vance: That guy was pretending to MAGA. He took off his MAGA hat, threw it down. It was very obvious that he has not washed his hair in about 3 months. We all know that the people who haven't washed their hair in 3 months are Democrats🇺🇸🙄

I mean I hope so but I'm so old I remember Republicans disavowing Trump after the Access Hollywood tape and we all know how that turned out.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

i don't think i've ever seen a campaign do a murder-suicide before (decent chance this drags down the entire GOP ticket in the state)

BREAKING: Trump's head of FEMA just told states to prepare to handle disasters on their own. The Trump admin's disaster chief told state officials they must increase their financial reserves and emergency capabilities to handle most disasters on their own — without federal help.

Saxby Chambliss falsely calling Max Cleland, a disabled vet, a weak traitor was a real turning point for political journalism that we don’t talk enough about. The rest of the GOP learned all they had to do was just lie loudly and kinda insistently and we’d beat it into voters heads for em

I've started watching Furious and I think we need to come up with a category of acting award called the HOLY FUCKING SHIT or something because you could melt an Oscar and an Emmy together and it still wouldn't be enough to recognize what Emmy Rossum and Lola Petticrew are doing.

Steve Way is extraordinary. I have not had the experience of Scoot McNairy before and in real life that scruffy sad-sack pining thing is insufferable. On TV it gets me every time. Rename a U.S. state after Quincy Tyler Bernstine for the little head tilt she does when she's fucking with someone.

Mike Barnicle is a plagiarist shitbag who keeps getting work because cancel culture isn't real.

Aaron Schatz@aaronschatz.com

Mike Barnicle just said on MSNBC that the Brewers and Rays made the World Series because they don’t use analytics.

You know, one of Jesus's big things was that if you have a choice between following The Law and helping people, you should always, always choose people.

And they have people to tell them about it! We started working with Unflappable Finance Dude when he was new in his job and just wanted clients so he didn't care that we were broke, but now he works with billionaires and tells us these tricks, and I'm like YOU CAN DO THAT? THAT'S LEGAL?!

Chef Kennedy🐸🏳️‍🌈@kennedy.northsky.social

The most horrifying part about this to me is that there's ways to do paperwork to prevent this, but poor people are not taught about it, we are not informed that we need to do this, rich people know all the paperwork secrets and they intentionally keep poor people from them

I mean, everything has a secret language, and despite what the flat-tax weirdos will tell you there's no real way to make money uncomplicated but it seems insane to me that it's like reverse consent. The state can fuck you unless you explicitly prevent them.

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.

At MOST, this is a kid using a different pronoun at school or telling a teacher something. And then you gotta ask yourself as a parent, why didn't my kid feel safe telling me? I dunno, Belinda, maybe because you went on Fox News about it?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Ashley Hinson claims Josh Turek supports "allowing kids to change their gender at school and not tell the parents about it" (This literally has never happened! Not once!)

Passive voice journalism is contributing to everyone's sense of helplessness and frustration and this is honestly a huge part of the circular firing squad problem because we feel like we've got no one else to yell at but one another.
