Politico wrote up Zohran playing basketball with the uncovering-a-big-scandal tone the same day the NYTimes wrote up "credible allegation that The President of the United States raped a woman" as a political strategy story. Broken media in a nutshell

New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility. w/ @grahamrayman.bsky.social & Joe Anuta www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

Today is the least hostile the Democratic Party is going to be towards Israel that it will be for a long time to come. And that will be true tomorrow, next month, and a year from now. One way train.

Yet one more element of escalating, and very clearly state-sponsored ethnic cleansing. We’ll update on their status as soon as we hear.

Imagine you call in Trump to campaign as a last ditch effort and he tells everybody you’re going to lose and starts talking about hot men’s asses instead

Trump on Roy Cooper: "He's going to become your senator and it's crazy" RIP Michael Whatley

We’re making methanol blindness great again apparently

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court agrees to review Reconstruction-era ban on distilling spirits in private homes.

It’s interesting to see this moral panic in tandem with that article that went around over the weekend about the older people who don’t think they should have to pay property taxes once they pay off their mortgage. Apparently the younger generations owe the boomers, but they don’t owe anyone else…

Michael Hobbes@michaelhobbes.bsky.social

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

One would be good and the other would be bad because one cause is good and the other is bad. We are not in the realm of procedural justice concerns anymore, liberalism is not obligated to be neutral on the question of its own existence.

People demanding Zuck be hauled before Congress to explain why No Kings insta was suspended... how would you feel if MAGA GOP hauled MSNow execs to explain why they covered Trump the way they do? Both are editorial choices protected by the First Amendment. If this annoys you...

Love 2 hear a guy at the library drunkenly tell his friend that he just early voted and then segue into a rant about how giants are real but the government is covering them up. The median voter (derogatory!)

RANDOM POSTER WHOSE OPINION I HAVE NO REASON TO TRUST: A result like this in NV-03 would be seismic. That’s deep Blortles country. It was Vinkum +8 in ‘24 ME DURING ELECTION SEASON: totally. i just need to look at 9000 more of these

I know this won’t be a popular opinion on here, but it’s time we all went back to Renner App. Yes it got bad on there after Jeremy was crushed to death by that snowplow, but now you’ll see far more celebrations of Jeremy’s life than discussions of the specific mechanics of his brutal pulverisation

The Israeli political consensus is that it is essential for the State of Israel to continue to deny self-government or self-determination to 33% of its population indefinitely, and virtually no mainstream American analysis will even engage with this.

I’ve been playing a frankly concerning amount of Galactic Racer this weekend, and Biddy Blas is my best friend now

you know, the voice actor for Biddy Blas has gotta be having the time of their life lmao

It's not hard. Both Yglesias moderates and Khanna leftists give MAGA politicians legitimacy because they want MAGA's base. Ossoff simply does not give a shit about the MAGA base, which allows him to speak with fierce clarity about MAGA politicians. He is willing to bet on an anti-MAGA majority.

Bill McKibben@billmckibben.bsky.social

Figuring out why Ossoff is so effective is an interesting task. I think he's mastering a kind of stern dignity that is uniquely compelling in contrast to the clownish cruelty of the other side. I think the other person who's kind of hit on the same thing is AOC, though in a different register

open weights model? no I said open Waits model. it just makes vague growling noises and talks a lot about New Orleans.

Hey, it’s the origin of my username! When I was a kid, I thought the lyrics of Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins went “all around the cathedral, the saints and opossums”

Good employers think in terms of "If I worked here, what would I want?" Forcing employees to stand rather than sit in chairs is basically the polar opposite of this approach and indicative of an employer who should be treated with contempt.

The Chair Fight is common in retail and comes down to control. My first thought that it’s particularly discriminatory to pregnant women. The second is the extremely fuzzy definition of “fitness standards” and how those are measured.

Big L for Worcester. As someone who is not generally library-oriented, I am amazed at all the WPL team under his leadership has done to raise the profile of this institution.

Matthew Noe@noethematt.bsky.social

Looks like the news is out - WPL Executive Director Jason Homer is leaving in November to become Baltimore's next Director. I am so happy for Jason and so incredibly sad for Worcester! www.telegram.com/story/news/l... www.thebanner.com/community/lo...
