In fact I will say the Earnest and Pious Charismatic Ethnic Minority political figure (AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed) has been a pretty good bet for the American left so far, whereas the Disaffected Gruff White Guy Showcasing True Masculinity (Fetterman, Platner) has been a worse bet. Just an observation.

I think the only way you can avoid this is having Nixon run again in '64 (which there is some evidence to suggest he wanted to) and then Goldwater losing to Humphrey in '68, although that probably just sets up Reagan for '76.
