Read this story if you love big stupid dogs committing multiple crimes without a thought in their head

PJ Harvey Dent@bsakat.bsky.social

This is Hank, a dog my family had when I was a little kid. My dad found him emaciated and matted as a new intake at the city pound. He'd been wandering the streets of my hometown, likely dumped but no one was sure why. He was gorgeous, a rare color (that brown tri-color), and a very good boy.

Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too. Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course. – George

I’ve come to accept that I’ll never be a wealthy gadabout. Hoping now to become a middle-income gadabout. Wealthy would be better, obviously, but ultimately I'm in this for the love of the gad.

I saw Star Trek III with a guy who thought it was the funniest blunder when Kruge calls the Enterprise a battleship (it’s a Class IV Cruiser, he insisted). This is nerd decadence But noticing an inconsistent design element on a uniform you’ve seen literally a thousand times? Right and good

Between this and the Serbian student list, I hope we see the current student blockades in Paris take the air out of Le Pen’s electoral tires

And, most importantly, thanks to the vital mobilisation of young people. Students took to the streets the day after the first round elections, kickstarting massive movements that saw the largest public demonstrations in Brazil since the days of Diretas Já at the end of the military dictatorship.

This sounds like a great exercise, and is basically the way I’m still able to listen to Pink Floyd and the Beatles after all these years

They try to describe each voice/instrument/etc timbrally (processed vs dry) and its perceived location (near/far, left/right). I had to do this as a music tech student and it was a great exercise; even if it's a song you have heard a thousand times, you notice lots of new things this way.

We like to imagine automation freeing us up for leisure, but what it really does is handle the tedious jobs so you’re left with the more finicky or careful tasks that the tedious things were helping you to procrastinate

I have very little patience for doomsaying and catastrophizing. The assertion of irresistible power is itself a key element of the authoritarian assault. We must not help them perpetuate it by giving in to pseudo-savvy cynicism and defeatism.

This was tonight's goal. I didn't get any perfect crow inside the moon shots, but this group of white faced ibis' knew the score! thanks, birds! ISO 500, F22, 1/200s, taken a minute before Sunset so there was still some light. better edits on a laptop later 🪶

James Petruzzi@hawaiianimages.bsky.social

Cool, I was curious if (and this is NOT a critique, just an artistic idea) with a higher f stop if the crow and moon both could be in focus. That may be impractical tho, I've never tried that kind of shot. And I love what you've gotten. :)

Oh hey, I guess I'm correct in a sense — here's the same vault from a different angle, and it sure looks to me like the "interior" of the vault is a flat image on the wall inside the opening

25. Many of the popular critiques of Tolkien are actually critiques of his imitators

24. People far too often confuse edgy or adult content with mature content.

Say whatever you like about his discography or his late-in-life Trump support, Eric Carmen was right that Rachmaninoff was the best composer from whom to plagiarize popular music melodies

My angle is that the whole of human knowledge and culture is a shared, communal entity and you keep it alive by sharing as much of it as possible with as many people as possible

Small Robots@smolrobots.bsky.social

People come at this from a strange angle, I find. So, here is my take: you probably won't use that stuff. You probably won't even use the skills you developed to use that stuff. But some people *will*, and those are the people who become doctors and scientists and architects and things like that.

One of my favorite recurring themes in the Pesach Haggadah (among other places) is "דּוֹר וָדוֹר", "generation to generation" each person must receive the story as though they lived through it themselves. I think that characterizes our solemn duty with science and math and history too.

Do *you* need to know calculus? How should I know? Does *humanity* need to know calculus? Very much so, and you, my friend, are involved in mankind, a piece of the continent, a part of the main

I’m still working through a book I bought six months ago. I love it and I want to finish it so I can tell the author how much I enjoyed it, but that timeline isn’t going to scroll itself
