Well I’m just going to call out the rest of the day

George Takei@georgetakei.bsky.social

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Diners have fully stopped seasoning food and no is talking about it. I feel insane. I don’t know how many more blank eggs and hashbrowns I can take.

A week or so late to this, but here it is! This fall, Minneapolis Public Works crews are constructing dozens of treatments like this, as well as median islands, as a part of our Neighborhood Traffic Calming, Vision Zero, and other related programs.

As of yesterday — 2 weeks before Election Day — 9.3% of Minneapolitans had voted early. Often it’s Somali-American-heavy Ward 6 that leads the pack (pop-up center there today), but map looks like normal distribution, indicating early voting widespread. vote.minneapolismn.gov/results-data...

Have you heard about the uniquely Minneapolis partnership between water service workers and freshwater mussels? On #ImagineADayWithoutWater, we’re proud that our residents don’t have to. Our scientists, staff and non-human partners provide safe, reliable and accessible drinking water year-round

I’m outraged by this attack on Representative Omar. Trump and his DOJ have a bizarre obsession with tearing down Minnesota, our leaders and our communities. This latest action, even as voting has already started in Minnesota, is a transparent attempt to interfere in our elections.

We Stand With @ilhanmn.bsky.social 🩵 For a decade, Trump has targeted @repilhan.bsky.social with vile rhetoric. This morning, federal agents raided Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's home. No president should ever be able to weaponize the federal government against his political enemies. #IStandWithIlhan

So I edited this story. And I wanna share on thought on language, & telling the truth We talked about: the "government is lying to you" It may sound saucy. It may sound like opinion But it's just true And if something is true then you should just say it, clearly That's just good journalism

Eric Umansky@ericumansky.bsky.social

"The federal government is lying to you." "The government has said that ICE does not zip tie or handcuff children." "They’ve denied engaging in racial profiling" "They’ve said the government is not wrongly arresting U.S. citizens." *We found the truth* projects.propublica.org/american-cit....

The federal government is lying to you.

ProPublica@propublica.org

NEW: The Trump administration keeps denying and downplaying that immigration agents have been detaining Americans. It’s wrong. We’ve found more than 500 U.S. citizens have been held against their will, including handcuffed or held at gunpoint.

Successfully bullied the building into turning the AC back on

Every September, my building turns off the AC for the winter too soon. So I unfortunately will be evil for the next 4-6 weeks until it’s no longer 80 degrees in my apartment.

Thanks to all who stopped by our Transit to Work Day celebration downtown! As regular riders know, commuting by transit is a great way to save money, ease stress, lower carbon emissions, and get the day started right.

Watched Cocktail last night to get in the right mind frame for Digger this week. The mind frame being “Boy, Tom Cruise sure can make a bad movie.”

Make a plan to take transit to work this Wednesday! And if you're headed downtown (or to the University of Minnesota), stop by our official celebrations for an AM pick-me-up!

Tomorrow, Saturday the 19th! Ribbon cutting and celebration for Upper Harbor Park from 10:30-12:00. If you haven't gotten a chance to check out this incredible new space yet, you've got to get over there (and if you already have, here's an excuse to do so again).

I was going to say anyone over a 4th grade reading level understands the real lesson of the original Stanford prison experience. But then I remembered where we are as a country. Anyways, highly recommend reading Humankind by Dutch historian Rutger Bregman.

Netflix has announced a new reality series titled ‘THE NEW STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT’. The series follows 30 participants who enter a real prison and are randomly assigned as guards or prisoners. They must see if they conform to the roles or if morality wins.

10 Idaho Statesman reporters — more than half the staff — were laid off Thursday by McClatchy Media, our hedge-fund-backed owner. Sadly, many don’t have large savings to sustain them while looking for new positions. Please consider donating to help reporters cover their bills. Any amount helps!

My wife was an election judge at one of the precincts they visited in northeast Minneapolis. Sounds like the election workers did what they’re supposed to do when some very weird people came in asking about vouching.

A new video from conservative provocateur James O’Keefe shows him and members of his team posing as Muslim Minnesotans and questioning Minneapolis election workers about the state’s vouching system. State and local officials are reviewing the encounters.

Don’t hesitate to come to the polls; DOJ monitors will be outside the 100-foot zone, you don’t have to talk, you also don’t have to freak out, if you see them talking to anyone before they vote (they can only do so after) or engaging otherwise, tell the precinct head judge. We’re trained to help.
