We already knew Minneapolis was #1, but it’s always nice to get some confirmation. Great parks, great neighborhoods, the best biking in the country, and a city people want to move to. Thanks to CityNerd for the shoutout!

So after watching YCSE, my feeling is that we need to agree upon a date after which we can all openly discuss the film's second half, which is I think is substantially more interesting than trying to litigate the classic "stupidity vs malice" debate as it pertains to Elizabeth Holmes.

(Although fwiw, I'm pretty firmly on team stupidity. The first person that liars deceive is usually themselves. It's not exculpatory to default to seeing Holmes as someone with an incredible capacity to compartmentalize and self-delude, rather than a 3D-chess-playing master actress.)

A mother cougar and her three kittens were captured on a trail camera in northern Minnesota. It’s an extraordinary discovery that could signal the return of a big cat that hasn’t been known to breed in the state for more than a century. 🎧 bit.ly/4tx3ZFJ

A week or so late to this, but here it is! This fall, Minneapolis Public Works crews are constructing dozens of treatments like this, as well as median islands, as a part of our Neighborhood Traffic Calming, Vision Zero, and other related programs.

The weather and fall colors in Minnesota were so nice today that the only reasonable choice was to take a 20 mile route home. What a spectacular place we're lucky to call home.

I forgot to snap a photo, but it was a joy to take a group from the Safe Routes Conference on a tour of some Minneapolis bicycle infrastructure. (This unseasonably warm fall weather was a plus!) Support from MPS schools, parents, and students is an underrated driver in Mpls bikeway development:

My favorite bicyclists to see on Minneapolis streets are groups of unaccompanied kids. "All ages and abilities" should mean exactly that, and it's affirming to see that our bikeway designs are meeting that standard and helping kids enjoy more independence outdoors. No stronger endorsement!

Just been such a revolution in my worldview to realise that people like Musk actually believe this, this isn't just the nonsense they feed the rubes so they can do coldly rational mercantile calculations in smokey rooms among themselves. No. It's rubes all the way down, they're that stupid.

i don't think we can come to a reasonable compromise with this

The baby boomer generation is the first to enter its most vulnerable years with unfettered access to the internet and, like the rest of us, it has trouble looking away. But unlike millennials and most Gen-Xers, older adults tend to have little idea of what they’re looking at.

Stuff like this is why the Canadian political establishment is (correctly, IMO) assuming that Democrats can NOT be trusted to return the bilateral relationship to the status quo ante going forward.

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

My first stop was Alberta, the only province not boycotting Californian wines. I spoke to provincial leaders about the importance of the Canadian market to California farmers and the importance of continuing close collaboration on dairy, beef and energy trade.

I understand why responsible pundits emphasize that polling error can cut both ways and that momentum can shift etc. I just think there's one fundamental that is the single biggest factor in these midterms, which suggests continued upside for Dems, but that a lot of people can't quite say out loud.

And it's that Donald Trump is doing a world-historically bad job as President, and that given his extreme stupidity and myriad other character flaws, his benchmark-setting reign of maladministration is nearly certain to continue and even become worse.

If you missed it at Open Streets, don't miss it here: One habit you can form to reduce your risk of bike theft, and one step you can take right now to drastically improve your odds of getting a stolen bike back. Help us spread the word!

I wish I had asked public works about this statistic that 75% of Minneapolis bike thefts are from indoor spaces like bike rooms and garages. I know it's more common than people realize, but 75% is shockingly high.

The last Open Streets event of the year is today! 11am-5pm on Hennepin Avenue from 26th Street to 34th Street! Come say hi! Public Works will be at the northern end near the intersection with Girard Ave.

Cities where car ownership is a de facto requirement to participate in economic and civic life are essentially levying a hidden tax on the public. It is so important to build and maintain infrastructure and systems that make it feasible for residents to choose to opt out of these costs.

A household that chooses to replace an aging car with an e-bike, for example, might see an estimated savings of $10k/yr. If hundred households make this choice, that represents $1 million in savings that may be more likely to be spent in the local economy instead.

As completely deranged and fucked up and wrong as he is, I gotta say it is stressful to have the damn president of the United States constantly attacking my state of Minnesota, sending violence, calling for violence, putting all lives at risk, killing our neighbors. Like it really takes a toll.

Took the train through downtown, then biked to my NE destination, biked back the scenic way. I love how easy it is to pull my bike on the light rail, especially at night when my tail light is dead!!
