My alder, @andrefor40th.bsky.social is introducing the smart streets expansion. Tells the story of a 2 year old biking with their parents, navigating around a car parked and blocking the bike lane, and being hot and killed, which led to the initial smart streets program.

Today we passed the Smart Streets Citywide Expansion Ordinance that I introduced along with Ald. La Spata, Cruz, Lawson, Yancy, Martin, Lee, Hadden, and over 30 council members out of Committee! Here are my remarks.

The biggest win for the Chicago left (up to that point) came in 2019 when rapper-turned-politician Andre Vasquez unseated Chicago Alderman Patrick O'Connor in Ward 40 on the north side. O'Connor had represented the area for almost 40 years before he lost by 8 points to Vasquez.
