To add several other short insights: 1) the central emotions young people in Serbia stirred up was hope that the state can be governed by democratic means 2) they reminded citizens that we are all equally entitled to public goods 3) they mobilised the diaspora (myself included)
Serbia: The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS-EPP) has admitted defeat in today's parliamentary elections. The Student List (SL-*) has won a majority of votes. #Serbia #Srbija #Izbori2026
First and foremost, electoral victory over competitive authoritarian regime that has hijacked institutions, obstructed justice and turned accountability into a mockery needs to be sweet! 🍫🍫🍫
While I am enjoying my Serbian chocolate from the ever-kind @andrejcvetic.bsky.social, I am also sending equally sweet thoughts to the country at a crucial moment.

Unfortunately, Dr. Mihić is not the first academic who has been dismissed from the University of Novi Sad, before him this was Dr. Jelena Kelut. You may read about their stories in English in the following piece: vreme.com/en/drustvo/o...
Considering the importance of free social science research in the present moment, please consider reading and signing the letter of support to Dr. Vladimir Mihić. You can find the letter and the signing link here: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

A new study finds that ten years after arriving in Germany in 2015, 64% of refugees are now employed. Yet, their average income remains just 70% of that of German citizens, and the gender gap is striking: while 76% of men are employed, only 35% of women have found work. iab.de/en/publicati...
the range of issues it is politically acceptable to discuss – seems to be widening in an alarming manner. The deliberately incendiary juxtaposition of “Muslim” and “migrant” with “rapist” or “illegal” has become almost the norm in some parts of public debate. + the way we debate these issues

Important takeaways from the newest @fraraffaelli.bsky.social piece 👇🏻
Progressive actors should know that: 1- Progressive voters do not fall for right-wing gender-framed anti-immigration arguments. In fact, they seem to reject them! 2- Even on the most contentious immigration issues, voters can hold positive nuances: it’s up to them to bring them to light! 7/8
