I think so many books on writing comics would be helped with the addendum, "We're all just making it up as we go along. Don't take it too seriously."

I'm so mad that I was nearly scammed by a job recruiter last night. They knew I was unemployed and desperate for full-time work in this market and tried to take advantage of that. It's cruel. I'm just glad I caught it when I did. Please be careful out there, friends.

While I have had many excellent pitches I am severely lacking in pitches from non-white people and I am very aware of that. I really really really want to elevate some non-white voices with this so I urge you to apply. Please please please.

Where are folks getting second opinions on their comic scripts from? I never see requests on here, but if it's not kosher to publicly ask then I will try asking around privately.

This is one of the things my therapist taught me that helped improve my mental health: Focus on a few things that you can actually change and do those. Start with your local community. You can’t help anyone if you’re burned out. Personally, I focus on going above and beyond for my patients.

Publishers alone cannot adequately promote books in 2026. The best thing you can do to help support the folks putting in the hours to cover them is to follow their shows. Here's a list of people I love. It's surprising that there's so little coverage overlap. Us 👇 www.youtube.com/@CryptidCrea...

If you're looking for bold comics that speak out against Christofascism like Ken Russell's The Devils, might I recommend my short story MONOLITH? (Illustrated by the incredible @wyrmsfornerves.bsky.social) (Publishers: Let me know if I can send you my one-page pitch for the maxi version.)

Did you know that in addition to one-on-one writing coaching, I do workshops? I just finished a really delightful hour with a newsroom talking about and troubleshooting strategies for writing for fun when you also write for a living; and I'd love to bring that to your org, too!

The maxi is something completely different yet also not too far away. This is honestly the most mythical and satirical story I could possibly imagine yet the most intimate and character-driven one as well. A uniquely American tragedy.

This is a great thread from @chrisarrant.bsky.social about the evolution of comic conventions in these weird modern times. One day events, art fairs, zine fests—these are all becoming more doable and successful for many creators, me included. Worth a read, #Comicsky!

Comic cons got bigger. Hollywood, anime, gaming, celebrity panels, & franchise activations turned them into pop culture festivals. But something interesting is happening on the other side: artists are building their own events, with the art itself as the main attraction. 🧵 (1/10)

I've been thinking about the Artist Alley article from the other day, and I'm reminded how prohibitively expensive a comics career is for everyone, esp indie writers. It's not enough to go into debt to make them, but then you also have to drain money to sell them. "Profitability" isn't reality.

Is that good for my career, where being in AA helps get jobs? Probably not, but for most writers like me the math doesn't math. You can make it work if you can accept losses, but everyone has a different line of how much they are willing to lose.

I want to add that many of my writing friends at shows *are* at least mildly profitable, but I think only so much as they're able to cover the table cost and not the whole weekend, incl shipping and travel. But they're prolific writers that cover many genres and go to several cons a year.

I've only tabled at two events (one was a FCBD and the other was Heroescon), but as a "newer" creator with only one physical comic to sell, I made under $20 the whole weekend. I've spent more at friends' tables or on the Uber to get there than I made at the events. Maybe that's on me, but still...

So when I hear small local indie shows like CAKE are really hard to get into, and shows like C2E2 are $500 a table and also hard to get into, I focus on the C2E2 Pro badge and networking instead.

That Ken Russell guy wasn't fooling around. WHAT A PICTURE! (Context: Just saw the new director's cut of The Devils. And sending thanks and love to my buddy Eric for making tonight happen.)

Mass Effect 2 and Knights of the Old Republic were two of the greatest games I've ever had the honor of playing. The geniuses behind them and the hard working teams trying to continue their legacy deserve everything. Thank you, Bioware! You deserved so much better than this.

There are a handful of bigger book outlets that won't review our books bc we do not work with large traditional book distributors. Its complicated but if you've read any of our books recently, please leave a review on goodreads it's basically like steam reviews but for our books, ok tysm!!!
