Ya gotta feel bad for Grover Cleveland, who will henceforth always be mentioned in the same sentence with Donald Trump.

I am suddenly seeing a massive uptick in spam calls. I am currently receiving about 15 per minute. Started about 20 minutes ago. Anybody else seeing anything like this?

Actually the best life advice I ever got: Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. A half-cleaned room is better than an uncleaned room. Occasionally flossing is better than never flossing. A 10-minute workout is better than no workout. When it’s all you can do to get out of bed, get out of bed.

The existence of a Chicago pope implies a Boston pope, an Alabama pope, and a Van Halen pope.

Most regulations exist because somebody tried to or DID get away with something, so we decided to do something about it. So anytime I hear someone say they are against “regulations” or that we just plain have too many “regulations”, I can’t help but wonder what they want to get away with.

I fully get being against specific regulations. They’re not all great. A lot of them are pains but still, they exist because somebody did something shitty and we decided to stop it. So people who are anti-regulation in general? What do you want to get away with?

Regulations exist to ensure companies * Treat the environment well * Treat their employees well * Treat shareholders well * Treat their customers well * Treat the marketplace well * Don’t cheat on taxes * And generally are honest in their dealings

If you keep going on and on about how the attack you planned on a chat service was an unbridled success, is that … virtue Signaling?

I’m still waiting for them to release the Zachary Taylor files. I mean… cherries? Really? You expect me to believe that?

Ricky Davila@therickydavila.bsky.social

The MAGA regime literally released the same JFK files that President Biden released and then lied to the cult that it’s new material. MAGA lunatics are dumb AF and are played like fools.

Was Trump serious about anything he said on the campaign trail? “No, I’m not gonna lower the price of eggs. No, I’m not gonna end the war in Ukraine. Yes, I’m gonna follow Project 2025. No, I’m not gonna stop being a dictator after Day 1.”

The New Republic@newrepublic.com

Turns out Trump’s repeat campaign promises to end the Russo-Ukrainian War “in 24 hours” were just jokes: “Well, I was being a little bit sarcastic when I said that."

@schumer.senate.gov Are you paying attention? *This* is how you message!

Walz: "I wouldn't do those town halls if I were them either because they have to defend cutting Medicare, cutting Medicaid, hurting their local public school, fighting a trade war with Canada. Just the nonsense, and defending President Musk."

Amazing thread. I’d heard about the Lake Bacon and the cocaine hippos, but most of the rest is pretty new to me!

Nome@nome.bsky.social

I have been doing entirely too much earnest posting about deep things recently, I need to do a proper thread about hippo testicles or something just to keep myself sane. Oh by the way hippos have migratory testicles.

People always mistrust politicians who want the government to do more… when it’s really the ones who want the government to do less that you have to watch out for.

And making the public school experience sh*ttier, especially for kids with disabilities and kids from low-income families and families of color. So that more families will opt for private schools or homeschooling. And funnel more public education funding into private companies' hands.

It’s a real shame Sting, Ric Ocasek, and Ray Manzarek never managed to get together for a night of classical music. I was really looking forward to the Police/Car/Doors Handel.

This feels like a big deal. Another case of a red state getting hit hard by Trump.

Thought for the day: Republicans are implementing massive change on a scale not seen since FDR (and much faster than his changes). Meanwhile, the Democrats want to go back to the way things used to be. So, by definition, this means the Democrats are now the conservative party.

This tweet from Lindsey Graham is still up on his timeline… and it rings truer now more than ever…

If you’ve stopped masking in public after COVID, you may want to consider doing it again… for the next four years at least.

c0nc0rdance@c0nc0rdance.bsky.social

That didn't take long. "Louisiana health department employees were informed of the new policy in meetings in October and November, which they said would be "implemented quietly and would not be put in writing."

When Republicans have deported, killed, or confined every illegal alien to a concentration camp, they will find it solves none of the US’s problems. When that day comes, will they finally start actually solving any problems? No, more likely they will start looking for other scape goats.

I still really love Gritty, I love that when he was unveiled, Philadelphia was like, "What the fuck", the world replied, "Yeah, what the fuck" and then Philadelphia said, "Hey, don't you talk that way about our Gritty"

I wrote about Musk and this bureaucratic coup as plainly as I could. There's reporting in here & the particulars are overwhelming but what's happening is so clear: He's not trying to run the federal govt like a software company He's trying to turn it into a political weapon. (gift link)

This is a part of tariffs a lot of people don’t really stop to consider… if you put a 25% tariff on popular foreign goods, that just gives a green light for domestic producers to raise their prices by 20%.

12. This is entirely personal & ymmv (of course ymmv applies to everything here), but I avoid fighting at all online. I'll have a discussion from time to time with people who disagree with me if I think it's actually good faith. But most people coming in hot are looking to fight, not actually talk.

I’m definitely starting to think Ayn Rand was onto something. I think all the über-rich *should* go on strike and disappear from the world, off to their own little “Gulch”. Oh, it would be so *terrible* and I’m sure the rest of us would all learn a *valuable* lesson if this happened.
