my contentious definition is "a published piece of work in which the narrative/events are fundamentally influenced by the mechanics of a ttrpg". I am sure that somehow, someway, that still misses things but that is the CLOSEST thing in my mind

As part of my request to create an AP collection on the internet archive, I need to submit a definition of "Actual Play", and I wish I could explain to them how incredibly contentious anything I write will be haha

Here's today's ask: I am looking for the AB CHAOS newsletter that Chaosium put out in 7 issues from 1990-1992. As usual, this is for work on my CoC history (but also for Designers & Dragons 3e down the road). Scans would be awesome so I could stitch them together, but tight photos good too!

#SunsetChat Q2 During a bright, quick song, Terran is pulling Micah onto the dance floor in a heartbeat. They're spinning around, not paying attention at all to any set choreography or steps to the dance. Terran keeps lifting Micah up or dipping him and laughing all the while. Kingdom dance vibes!

#SunsetChat Q2: your character(s) make their way to the dance floor. The live band or musicians begin to play a song. Describe the song and who among your party is dancing. #QTP #WritingPrompt #PromptGame

Not only is this a terrible thing to say about your coworkers, it also throws the whole concept of creative collaboration into the garbage. When I go back and forth with someone like @einzbern.bsky.social on a concept or piece of art, the final result winds up better because it has both of us in it.

My entire career in RPGs has been focused on overcoming this issue. We do it in a lot of ways. The single biggest piece of advice I can give is that players know what can scare them. Empower the players to scare themselves, and they will. Incentivize sub-optimal choice making!

The Colorado ballot is so jammed with initiatives funded by wealthy and right-wing interests that it's taking me as long to research my votes as it does to do my taxes.

Trilobite is watching always watching

It’s Trilobite Tuesday! Feast your eyes on this dolomitic Encrinurus, uncovered from the Silurian exposures of Illinois. Notice the stalked-eyes atop its cephalon? This morphologic trait may have allowed it to burrow into the sea floor and keep watch over its surrounding marine world.

tolkien's translation and commentary on beowulf is one of the things that got me more intensely into the topics of translation, the old-old literature, the alienness of it sometimes

master and margarita is another good oldie, this one i've read only in polish translation though. one of the nicer school lectures and both better and worse than ppl talk abt it
