I was honored to visit Our Lady Salam, the first Arabic-speaking Lutheran parish on Staten Island.
Its congregants hail from as close as Hylan Blvd to as far as Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, & Egypt — yet have planted roots in our city. Many carry the weight of war and genocide daily.
Jack Smith: "History teaches that the rule of law is rarely destroyed all at once. It's often weakened by attacks on the institutions and the public servants sworn to uphold it. Since January 2025, we have witnessed precisely such an effort."
🤡 Schmitt beclowns himself 🤡
Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atl for a Hawks game and to collude with Fani Willis, & flashed his "evidence" before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- his facts were totally wrong.
Here's the whole sequence:
He is not wrong.
"There are reasonable grounds to believe that the reported 68 attacks that killed 223 people constituted crimes against humanity of murder under customary international law"
- United Nations Special Rapporteur on U.S. Killing “Narco-Terrorists” at Sea

NEW: DHS's Inspector General releases a scathing report about the Everglades detention camp known as "Alligator Alcatraz." The OIG finds that the now-closed camp, violated multiple ICE standards.
The OIG also confirms detainees were punished with placement in a metal cage in the Florida heat.🧵
Kroger, which wants to buy yet ANOTHER grocery chain:
-Ranks among the largest companies with employees dependent on Medicaid & SNAP
-Paid its CEO $14M last year, 417x its median worker's pay of just $34,552
-Spent $12.3B on stock buybacks since 2019
This is what corporate greed looks like.
This iconic 1971 photo of Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman Hughes has always said so much without saying a word.
Two women. Two raised fists. One shared fight for equality.
Dorothy passed in 2022. Now Gloria is gone too.
Two giants who helped change America.
Rest in power, Gloria. ✊🏼✊🏾
People are falling for the DSA vs Establishment trap again. Didn’t we learn our lesson in 2016 and 2024?
It’s the establishment’s job to build a coalition that can win EVERYWHERE. In some places, that means ultra-progressive. In others, it means establishment.
The tent is big enough for all of us.
Why would Trump remove federal reporting requirements this week mandated in a law authored by Marco Rubio in 2020 to identify domestic and international sex traffickers, money launderers and terrorists, and will Rubio comment on it?
The president is refusing to spend taxpayer money assisting Americans suffering from natural disasters solely because their states didn't vote for him.
I know there are a thousand scandals at the moment, but this one deserves some more oxygen at every level.
Is this just business as usual in politics? No. Approval rates of federal disaster aid requests were about the same regardless of the state and did not vary much with the party of the President. This graph powerfully conveys the scale of the partisan discrimination now.
Folks should read how this ends, bc it's the kind of oversight that Dems are doing for which they get little credit, and it's something they can build on if/when they win the House.
Many of you are asking how you can help me. My only ask is this: Spread the word about the threats to democracy and how we can fight back. Tell everyone to subscribe to Democracy Docket and share its content. Thanks. bit.ly/4qmEiFz
“The White House is inhabited by people who don’t believe in the ‘abstractions’ that we usually celebrate on the Fourth of July,” Anne Applebaum argues. “And this affects the rest of us, whether we want it to or not.”
LMAOOO, check out President Obama doing the intro on Larry David's new show, perfect timing and delivery! trump could never!
The show is hilarious, btw.
It's basically Curb Your American History.
Recap of the Broadview 6 grand jury:
— WEEK 1: Government tries to indict protesters for impeding a police car. Jurors ask why the cop isn't being charged for driving into them instead. No bill.
— WEEK 2: Government presents same exact argument. Jurors aren't having it. [continued in next skeet]
They're stealing billions of your money to pay off violent right-wing psychos while doing everything in their power to spike gas up to $5 a gallon, make groceries into a luxury and hand the country over to the oligarchs who want to permanently replace you.
I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.
This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.
It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison.
It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.
I gift this NYT piece by David French, so that all can read.
“Millions of Americans are desperate for a quick and effective response to Trump’s attacks on the Constitution. But the election foreclosed that possibility. The courts — even if they have the courage — lack the power to save America.
