Speaking of Polaris - I’m giving a 60 minute lecture at GDC about system suspense, a topic from a previous year! I’ll be able to dig into some case studies that didn’t make the report - so if you’re into systemic games and designing for surprise, check it out 😊 schedule.gdconf.com/session/desi...

I knew this because of Mary Carillo’s amazing badminton riff.

Part of my literal job is to fly out to physical game studios to rescue and recover historical materials that might be endangered and put them in a permanent archive. @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is a 501(c)3 publicly funded to do that, my DMs are open, and I'm free for the next couple weeks...

"I wonder why they had to do it (shut a studio down)" THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO!!! THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO

And that’s a wrap on Roguelike Celebration! I feel very lucky to get to facilitate so much enthusiasm and creativity every year, and give my time back to an event which has brought so much joy and fulfilment into my life. It’s so much work but it’s what I’m proudest of helping to nurture ❤️

We’re about to start a very special 45 minute delve into the history and source code of Hack. Real classic Roguelike Celebration fare!

Roguelike Celebration@roguelike.club

It's our *last* day of Roguelike Celebration 2026 and we're now live with a whole set of amazing talks coming up shortly! Please get a free / pay-what-you're able ticket at ti.to/roguelike-celebration/roguelike-celebration-2026 and join us in our custom event space!

This is just starting now and promises to be a good one!

I'm giving a talk on Sunday about push your luck games. It's a bit of a design exploration that I think will go to some interesting and unexpected places

The @roguelike.club social space is rad because we can run into issues like “ah you’ve accidentally slipped into a past world, rooms that exist and yet do not. We don’t know how to follow you there. We’re not sure what happens when you leave. Please click the obelisk and hard refresh your browser.”

For those not following Mike Cook’s public talk series you’re missing some fantastic stuff! Last year at AIIDE we got “games are generators” and today we got “cities are generators”. The Mike Cook fandom is abuzz with what might be revealed to be a generator next.

Tomorrow I'm speaking at @roguelike.club at 6pm UK/10am PDT about street photography, procedural generation and how to walk through what we make. Join me on YouTube, or pay-what-you-want and join a text-based roguelike chatroom to watch the talks! www.roguelike.club/event2026.html

Only one more sleep 'til Rooguelike Celebration! Before getting into the last batch of speaker shoutouts before the show, one more reminder that tickets are pay-what-you-can - we'd love for you to hang out and join us! ti.to/roguelike-ce...

I will continue to spam Roguelike Celebration posts until we at least have as many tickets sold as we typically do one day before the con, the schedule is too good this year to accept anything less!!!

Closing out the weekend is conference veteran @slashie.bsky.social! Slashie covers how designing games for years is itself roguelikesque, in "The Decades-Long Design Experiment That Escapes Permadeath and Finds a New Form Every Run". The perfect talk to close out Roguelike Celebration 2026!

Michael Howk and @dainialpadraig.bsky.social are giving a joint presentation of Hack: The "Lost Roguelike" - they separately submitted talks about the same inciting incident in recovering and repairing the Hack sourcecode, and agreed to give the talk together!

Ring Ring! Hint please? @hey.paris will talk us through the process of building Hint Line '93 in "Please Hold: Building a Playable Museum Exhibit About 1993 Game Support". This talk is going to make me want to visit Melbourne just for this museum exhibit, I can tell.

There is a WILD collection of talks by incredible people across the weekend - this is not a conference about roguelikes as much as it is a conference about a very particular kind of good technology/art/games weirdness, and you absolutely will love it. Schedule: www.roguelike.club/event2026.html

Today’s capitalist dystopia - my family discovered my great grandpa’s house has been torn down and rebuilt as a luxury BnB new-historical-reproduction home. Complete with family photos and diary entries as selling points, from the biography my mum wrote and donated to the local museum. Wtf.

Hey look! I'm giving a talk this year! It's about Reactivity in Roguelikes, building characters that can feel alive and responsive to player action. You should come see it!

This was *such* a good talk, major kudos to @martinpi.bsky.social who got through a whole breadth of ideas at such a measured pace. Always impressive to be both information-dense and relaxing to watch!

Roguelike Celebration 2026 is only 15 days away! We're in the process of uploading the talks from our preview event earlier last month. First up! Martin Pichlmair talks about pre-Rogue roguelikes - the history of procedural generation before computers. youtu.be/EMb6B2cIJps

Very excited to be speaking at this event! Finally getting to talk about the games/proc gen influences in my art work :)

Alexei Pepers@apepers.bsky.social

The schedule for @roguelike.club is up! We’ve got yet another stunning lineup with multiple people who are such a good fit I had assumed they’d spoken already 🤣 Time is fake and it’s just over two weeks until the con so check it out, buy a ticket, come hang out! www.roguelike.club/event2026.html

The last is especially awesome because Dan Stormont and Michael Howk sent two separate submissions referencing the same inciting event and then very kindly agreed to band together and share the slot when we told them that we wanted both angles on the story instead of choosing just one!

The schedule's out - I'm speaking at the Roguelike Celebration again this year! My talk is titled "The City, The Street, The Lens" and it's about street photography, collisions in time and space and how to think about procedural generation differently. More here: www.roguelike.club/event2026.html
