I used to commute into London in the early 0's and sneeze out a clog of black soot each night. Good things are possible.

A player found something very very very hidden

nardi@nardinardi.bsky.social

Even the games name "Penguin Colony" is to play into this idea. A Colony? They are Indigenous. Almost every penguin in the game has a colonial name -- "King" "Emperor" "Magellan" "Gentoo" "Adelie" After the game we are shown all of this information as our expedition results.

Veselekov@veselekov.bsky.social

Having players begin to question the ever present colonial language in games was intentional. Even the game mechanic of "collecting" and "discovering" was something I wanted to challenge. You are shown what you found It is up to you to question the validity of. What you find has Nazi appraisal

The top two frames of the slop comic are pretty much the first part of how Marx explains technological innovation to work under capitalism. But it's missing the stage where once everyone is using the same technology, you end up back at 1-year development and only breaking even again.

After learning from @jimmunroe.net at last night's Video Game Arts Appreciation Night that its brutalist architecture was the inspiration for the level design in @metanetsoftware.com's game "n", I can't look at Robarts Library / "Fort Book" the same way…

re: what is the earliest game that let's you be non-binary, someone responded with this: "wizap ankoku no ou" on SNES, a game that lets you literally pick your gender on a spectrum. unassailably cool!

Gnoll Girl X@gnollq.itch.io

Huh didn't load up the game myself but hot damn you are correct. Still later than Ultima III: Exodus (1983 vs 1994) still cool though.

I was too hard on Tim Sweeney. Getting so mad at Twitter that you organise a game jam is some really relatable indie dev shit, maybe he *is* one of us.

Anyway, #PROCJAM is back again this December, dates announced soon, come join our friendly community and make nice things with us. We have no prizes! We don't crunch! There is no in-person event in San Francisco! Everything you could want from a game jam.

I won’t be at this one but perhaps… you will????? (Free tickets for students/unwaged, good time with nice people, cool sound and visuals and art!)

Lu wilson@todepond.com

just put up the event page for our next algorave(?) in london(?) grab your tickets now! ALGORHYTHMS 4th November luma.com/elzpss80

That's me! I'll be at ITU Copenhagen next week to talk about street photography, games and procedural generation - an extended version of the talk I gave last weekend at Roguelike Celebration. Looking forward to meeting everyone. 📸

On October 30th, Mike Cook @mtrc.bsky.social , who has written a beautiful book about computers, games, and play (www.bloomsbury.com/us/next-leve...), will be talking about “Photographic Perspectives on Generative Systems”.

Thank you so much to everyone who came along and took part in the first ever From Scratch London!!! We saw live music, visuals, vocals, dance, drumming, ukulele strumming, synth, and live drawing AND live drawing, also live kazoo and jaw harp, all completely improvised!

Think about it this way though: with all this public fuss, in the future *no-one's* gonna think to check 4 for private keys. It's probably the safest private key you could pick now. Who would believe it could happen twice.

This is an excellent, calm and precise discussion of what it means to draw lines for AI use in a creative community, and the problem of AI users feeling entitled to both have their cake and eat it.

Shoujo@shoujo.gay

i've recently heard that some ai bros want to make an smw central alternative because we don't allow gen ai content on the site. here's my direct response to those people. "who owns rom hacking?" and other questions ai poisons us with shoujo.gay/who-owns-rom...

ok non-tech ppl might be hearing some scary things about "critical vulnerabilities" involving certificates. the main thing you need to know, without getting down in the weeds about it, is that the fourth seal is broken. lo, a rider approacheth upon a pale steed, and his name is Death

This game is clever, full of heart, beautifully drawn, and very human.

PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE's demo is part of this year's Steam Next Fest, just in time for the spooky season... If you like thinky puzzles, disabled stories, or cozy-creepy games, then THIS is the demo for you!! store.steampowered.com/app/4656880/PATIENCE_IS_A_VIRTUE/

thinking about this today

Mike Cook@mtrc.bsky.social

oh no, i don't use the ai for <thing that i am paid to do> it's terrible at that. it's great for <thing you are paid to do> though.

It searched Wikihow for article headers and subheaders, then restructured their contents to sound euphemistic. That was it. It was so simple and laugh-out-loud effective.

Does anyone here still use Dreamhost? Their admin panel seems to just not work any more and their support seems to have turned into AI agents that don't do anything, I can't tell if I'm losing my mind or not.
