Who has two thumbs and a book that officially dropped at midnight? That's right, this girl.
Get it from Cryptic Plumage Press or my Fourthwall shop or wherever you like getting ebooks and paperbacks.

“Between the Storms” ebook
I've released my SF Sapphic meet-cute as a standalone ebook. You can find it in my shop and on itch.io. (Attentive readers will remember it can also be downloaded for free in Hearth Stories.) I've begun the process of updating the ebooks: tweaking covers, interior…

A quick note about File770
In the past, I've linked to some of File770's coverage of genre goings-on. It's the dude-with-a-blog form of genre press, literally grown out of a physical fanzine, but with a variety of contributors. That means the coverage has been quirky—a long post on playing with…
the example of uber is instructive. it was pretty incredible when the money cannon was firing. now that it's expensive we're stuck with an immiseration engine for workers who depend on it, that sabotages public transport and pours waterfalls of money into anti labor legislation
You know what doesn't get enough love? Horror short stories.
From today through Halloween, I'll update this thread with Horror short story recommendations. Stuff you can read in a sitting while feeling like the shadows are watching.
Technically, my most recent release is a just-dropped short story reprint, "Between the Storms," a sapphic sci-fi meet-cute. Cover photo by Max LaRochelle, design by me.

These humans are assholes but the dogs will be Very Good because they're all good dogs and I look forward to a Warhound breed rescue springing into action and fostering out all the wigglebutts saved in puppy mill raids.
*NEW* Colossal Biosciences’ Ben Lamm and Anduril’s Palmer Luckey team up on a new startup to genetically engineer war dogs for the military. Warhound comes out of stealth at $1.2B valuation

FWIW, I assumed they were referencing the "sudo" command but that still evokes "pseudo" in the sense of falsity and taking credit for another's work.
And now I want a sandwich.
There is no justification for the execution of a one-year-old baby in a Walmart parking lot. The idea that the state of Mississippi could declare that Kohen Wiley’s murder was ‘justified’ is an affront to all of us.
We refuse to accept that the shoplifting of a box of diapers is a crime punishable by death for the diaper-wearer. We continue to stand with Kohen’s family, in grief and outrage.

This is really the key political development of the last 15 years, and there are waaayyyy too many people working in politics and media who don't have the stomach to just state it plainly. A lot of the other conversations happening right now are just tangential to this
Apparently The Atlantic published something dumb for the umpteenth time. You *could* read the clickbait and rage about it...or you could download my book.
This is a format case where if you ask me if listening to an audiobook counts as reading, I will say yes. But if you ask me if an audiobook is just another edition of the book, I will say no.
(Nobody is screaming at me for audiobooks. Which is good, because I won't be making them.)
In other news, I got some spam regurgitating back cover copy and offering to help me with outreach to space opera communities. So to celebrate my text having been thoroughly crawled and chugged by so-called AI, I'd like to remind everybody that you can buy my book: aphowell.com/books/corner...
Skirting the "vacation home in a beautiful locale" restriction, I would buy one of those abandoned villages somewhere and invite a bunch of friends to live there as neighbors for least chunks of the year* and make the rest of it a retreat for writers and artists.
* The kids still have school!
In a library catalog
Like most authors, I'm a big fan of libraries. This is partially because most authors are also big readers, many of whom are lucky enough to have cherished childhood memories of roving a library, feel gratitude for the ability to keep reading when money was tight, and have…
Markets to avoid: Must Read Magazines
This post is aimed mainly at folks new to the fields of short fiction and illustration, or those who don't have extensive connections to professionals. My platform is small, but it's worth using it to boost a warning. In a nutshell Back in 2025, a new…
I'm looking to make art! Anyone need a pretty cover for one of your upcoming books/Anthologies/chapbooks/etc? I love working with indie authors and also with presses. Here are a few Science Fiction examples I've worked up recently. Either DM me here or contact me through addi.studio
And please RT!
In light of some magazines pulling scummy things on creators lately, I’m doing a little thread on short story rights. I don't want anybody getting taken advantage of.
Also, if you're new, this stuff can be confusing!
Things I enjoyed in 2026 (Part 5)
Novels Casual by Koji A. Dae (2025): The horrors of this book are understated and pedestrian: poverty; limited opportunities for work and travel; enduring environmental damage; mental health struggles; repressed memories of childhood trauma; a bad relationship;…
The situation with Must Read Media is both ludicrously complicated and very simple. They come from a world where everyone is shitty and backstabbing as a matter of course. To them, business is about fucking people over. And our entire community is saying no and showing them the door.
So what am I trying to argue for here?
A) there's a gap in MG that could be better filled
B) MG could be better differentiated by reading levels/complexity either in libraries or bookstores
C) series. Kids *love* series. Kids need series. And they need a *lot*.
🧵 Attention, Fellow SFF Artists and Authors -- here is my response to Must Read Magazines, after they presented an Asimov's art contract expecting me to waive all Moral Rights and Copyright to my art.
And, I would strongly advise the following to my fellow pros…. 1/
