I have worked in Amgueddfa Cymru โ€“ Museum Wales for over six years, yet I learn something new about our collections every day ๐Ÿคฉ Today I got to hold a replica Iron Age - Early Roman (c. 1st century AD) shield! Itโ€™s heavy! Itโ€™s SO heavy!

Iโ€™m very fortunate to be part of this project and it would mean a lot if you could spare a donation of any amount so the veterans can build their own chariot, modeled from truly remarkable Iron Age artefacts they have been finding from a sacred lake in Wales ๐Ÿด๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ

We also have more details on the Bulford pit alignment in Wiltshire, and articles on Butser, anthropomorphic figurines, Linear B Tablets, cartoons, etc etc!! So much to read... and all FREE! Enjoy! 2/3

An unusual request in the name of archaeological science: Would anyone happen to have a Shetland or Exmoor pony that wouldnโ€™t mind sending some fur samples to me? Weโ€™re trying to compare a potentially preserved fur specimen but thereโ€™s (perhaps unsurprisingly) few sources on fur fibre diameters!

#findsfriday - the โ€˜Face of Agamemnonโ€™. A gold funerary mask from Mycenae - probably 16th C BCE. Sadly not the face of the king though. One of those wow moments when you finally see the object that has become incredibly familiar to you from books & stories #archaeology #greekmyths #trojanwar #gold

Shields like this would apparently be used with a long spear-headed weapon and the shield would even double as a weapon itself. I canโ€™t imagine how strong people would have to be to wield this beast in battle because idk if I mentioned this but it is HEAVY!
