A Tennessee appellate court has ruled that the killing of a woman may have been justifiable because she was trans. The court reversed a conviction, stating that the killer could have a new trial because the jury did not know the woman killed was trans. Trans panic in the modern era.

I think there is a good chance that if Democrats sweep Congress one of the first things they'll do is try to pass an Australia-style social media ban for under 16s. We need to start organizing against this right now. Ron Wyden can't be the only Senator who will understand this is terrible.

Authoritarian governments are always looking for more ways to control people. They do this via censorship and surveillance to control what we can say, what we learn, and how we act. VPNs allow us to circumvent both of these methods of control online. We need your help to defend these tools!

It's also why its so important to support groups like @eff.org and @fightforthefuture.org who work to educate legislators. Yes, there are terrible ideologues who hate privacy online, but a lot — perhaps the majority — legislators voting for these bans just haven't thought it through.

Trust me when I tell you that few lawmakers have thought through any of the implications. Frighteningly few understand the technology. Others don't understand why we need privacy on the internet — or think only criminals do. That's why calling / writing / fighting is so important.

We can and should fight back. I worked on the WI bill, which banned sites with "material harmful to minors" from accepting VPN traffic. Thanks to @fightforthefuture.org and @fsc.bsky.social and others, the provision was ultimately struck — and the bill vetoed. But that's only because we fought back

Politicians in power hate that we have free online access. They want to know who is posting what, and they want to know it in real-time. We must fight back against their obsessive, Orwellian control no matter what it takes, especially for the safety of future generations. #savespeech

Michigan, Wisconsin and Utah all tried to pass VPN restrictions this past year. We should expect even more this year: I'm already hearing about new bills being planned in other states, including one that would make it a felony to bypass age-verification using VPN. This isn't about protecting kids.

Whelp, this is a pretty gross ad from Brown. It would have been completely fine without the "transgender surgeries for kids are already illegal in Ohio" part. Notably, that law also bans all gender affirming care for youth, and top surgery for older teens, which sometimes is necessary.
