Does Dead Kennedy know where 'algebra', and our alphabet originated?

Tim Carmody@tcarmody.bsky.social

RFK talks about autistic and Arabic people the exact same way. He assumes they are not capable of ordinary or extraordinary achievements because of who they are. He considers them sub-human because they are not like him. This makes it plain that his is a white supremacist eugenicist project.

There’s desperation behind these Republican ads. But there’s confidence too—that scapegoating Muslims taps into biases many Americans still feel, and that it will be enough to alter some outcomes. The latest edition of The Breakdown from @citizencohn.bsky.social:

I'm reminded of how the traffic police were mysteriously withdrawn when Pope John-Paul II made an unofficially unwelcome visit to communist era Poland. Yet the people 'found their own way of moving'.

Laura Bassett@lebassett.bsky.social

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Two down!

Lula’s win is the first good news for the planet in a while! I bet it shaves a tenth of a degree off how hot our earth eventually gets, which will save millions of lives Thank you Brazil!

For every young Victorian lady in need of a discrete set of lockpicks (and button hooks)

Rachel E. Pollock@labricoleuse.bsky.social

This 19th c lady’s multitool was found in the pocket(!) of an antique (1872) garment donated to the historic clothing archive at my employer. It features a button hook for fitted gloves and a tiny corkscrew. The corkscrew is too small for wine & was probably intended to open apothecary bottles.

In a little-noticed webpage update, the Environmental Protection Agency has announced a plan to decommission its online web archive at the end of the year, a move that would wipe tens of thousands of publicly available environmental resources from the web.

I know it may seem countertintuitive, but social media is, itself, an improvement. "Because we frequently suffer from the scourge of information pollution, we find it hard to imagine its even deadlier opposite- information starvation." - Arthur C Clarke, addressing the UNESCO IDPC Conference, 1981
