Now someone try to tell him about the Old Spaghetti Factory and watch tariffs on Italian imports double.

Ron Filipkowski@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

So basically someone told Trump today what Cheesecake Factory was, and it probably took a little while to explain to him that they aren’t local factories that make cheesecakes. But he probably still isn’t quite sure what they are.

6 division pennants versus 5, 3 World Series championships versus 1. But 0 double sweeps to 1 double sweep. I still favor the Dodger on this score, but it’s a legit close call! If the Dodgers were a 1970s Reds-level team, they’d be playing in St. Petersburg tonight. They aren’t, so they aren’t.

Embarrassing for the Rays that their batting helmet logo decals are all mis-aligned. Some clubhouse guy has apparently never seen their alternate hats. Or their original expansion hats.

I actually think a 1980s MADD-style astroturf anti-online-gambling deal would be very useful for Democrats, and also good for America and Americans.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

i don't think anyone should run explicitly on banning online gambling but i do think that a democratic-led government should just quietly take steps to undermine the industry and create an inhospitable regulatory environment

Just received a flyer opposing David Crowley as being too cop-friendly and urging a vote for his Republican opponent instead, credited to “Progressive Alliance of Wisconsin,” which was registered a few days ago in Chicago.

The legitimate federal remedy here is to charge individuals with the crimes inherent in the actions of registering or voting as a non-citizen. If the Feds can’t charge a crime, then presumptively the criminal activity didn’t happen.

BREAKING: The 9th Circuit rules 2-1 to dismiss DOJ's effort to force California to remove 20,000 purported noncitizens from the voter rolls based on data CA officials view as faulty. Majority: Bennett (Trump) Sanchez (Biden) Minority: Bumatay (Trump) storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

I hope so. Go with God, future Ukrainian atrocity hunters.

Brian Finucane@bcfinucane.bsky.social

People have long memories when it comes to atrocity crimes. Few years back I asked a former USG Ukraine expert on what he expected by way of accountability for Russian atrocities: “The Israeli model.” (Hunting down and killing the perpetrators.) www.wsj.com/world/europe...

The thing is, voting by a noncitizen is a serious federal crime. If the regime had any proof it had happened, they would charge individuals with felonies rather than submit “databases” of 20,000 names to states.

Trump: "Anybody reporting Voter Fraud in the past Elections, or the upcoming 2026 Midterm Election, will be paid $1,000,000 upon the arrest and conviction of those that created the Fraud! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP"

It’s disturbing to hear so much negativity about Michael Collins, who in my head is either my favorite Apollo-era astronaut or my favorite Irish revolutionary. Whoever this other Mike Collins is I wish he’d cut it out.

On a serious note, astronaut Collins has way more impressive accomplishments than just Guy-Who-Didn’t-Land-in-Apollo-11. Spacewalking pioneer, helped develop orbital rendezvous tech, diplomatic outreach to cosmonauts, Smithsonian leader, and more.

It's well-documented that the president maintained a years-long friendship with the world's most notorious child sex trafficker. It might strike you as odd there aren't direct allegations of Trump engaging in child sex trafficking.. except there are. There are SO MANY. They just never get reported!

If you’re not naturalized, and you think you’re a citizen, it’s precisely your birth certificate that makes you an American.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

Rally speaker: "Mike Rogers is an American. Abdul has a birth certificate. The birth certificate says he's a citizen of America. You know what? a birth certificate doesn't make you an American."

Worth noting that Norwegian immigration to the USA is <10,000 per year, which means it’s mostly marriage naturalizations. I suspect he’s really talking about penalizing states with big circa-1900 Norwegian immigrant populations, like WI & MN.

(Reuters) - US President Donald Trump on Sunday escalated his invective against Norway, calling it a "shit house country" and ‌saying Norwegian immigrants were not welcome in the United States because the Nobel committee .. had not awarded him a Peace Prize. www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

Our political system hasn't decided that Donald Trump isn't a rapist. it has decided that it's ok that he's a rapist.

Prem Thakker ツ@premthakker.bsky.social

NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

I would love to live in a world where "President faces new rape allegation" isn't treated like a dog bites man story in the major media.

I just leaned that Antonin Scalia considered Heller his best work. Heller is an objectively bad decision! It begins by overtly ignoring constitutional text. Most people at most jobs would be fired for an equivalently anti-competent performance.

You can reach Heller’s outcomes without pretending the words of the Constitution don’t exist. But that requires a form of living-Constitution jurisprudence. Which Heller absolutely was. It would be better if Scalia could have been honest about that.

I actually think Heller’s outcome, which I don’t favor largely because of how radical it is, is basically fine. But the fact that the decision couldn’t honesty assert a Roe-like finding of a new right on penumbral grounds means post-Heller jurisprudence is a mess.

Around 175 House Dems just called on Trump's DOJ and DHS to end "weaponization of law enforcement" against Rep Ilhan Omar. The letter is signed by numerous ranking committee Dems, showing depth of support for Omar in leadership and signaling how Dem House will act. newrepublic.com/article/2171...

“THE WORST CLINIC IN AMERICA” is a heck of a thing to say when your voters are mostly exurban and rural and brother, we all know what a bad clinic is. Many of us rely on pretty terrible clinics for what healthcare we can access. Worse than the clinic where my uncle died? Doubt it, says everyone.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Also, the UN Charter is crystal clear: Russia does not have a permanent seat on the Security Council. The Charter still names the Soviet Union. So Ukraine (and Armenia, Uzbekistan, Latvia, etc) have as much right to that UNSC seat as does Russia.

Edward Hunter Christie@ehunterchristie.bsky.social

Repeat after me: Russia has no legitimate security concerns; only its neighbours do. Russia has been the only one invading others.

I’m a firm believer in not calling people by the titles of jobs they don’t currently hold. I make a few exceptions for hard-earned titles, like Doctor (either one), Ambassador, Colonel/General or Captain/Admiral, and Reverend. I’ll grudgingly admit President because of custom.

Good, and these efforts are minimal table stakes. Democrats, if they hold a majority in either house, must be prepared to let Republicans shut down big portions of the government for long periods in order to force Republicans to defend Trump corruption and criminality.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

NEWS --> Dems are planning novel ways to wield power of the purse against Trump's corrupt prosecutions of critics like Ilhan Omar if they win House. Reps Pramila Jayapal and Jamie Raskin tell me a range of aggressive tactics will be deployed. Details in my new piece: newrepublic.com/article/2171...

Let Trump or a Republican-majority Senate trigger debt default if it comes to that. Yeah that would be catastrophically bad, but accepting the defense or continuation of the Republican revolution to install a dictator would be worse.
