Delighted to say that my poem 'Learning Scots during the World Cup' has been selected for publication in GALLUS which is "Poetry Scotland’s sassy supplement".

As academics tend to say (but the reasons why escape me), I am *deligthed* that my article on Kant‘s cosmopolitan right in now available in open access in the Kantian Review. In this article, I start to develop an account of Kant's cosmopolitan relationality. 1/ www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Two years ago I coined the term "Civil Geopolitics" to address transformations of citizenship in terms of competition between states over people conducted by attracting, fostering and forging civil connections to some and by deterring, disallowing and disavowing civil connections with others.

Nineteen of Mohamed Ouahbi's 26-man squad were born outside the country. During the group-stage draw against Brazil, Morocco became the first team in World Cup history to field an entire starting XI born abroad.

It is no accident of demographics. More than a decade ago, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation began investing heavily in identifying dual-national talent across Europe."

The World Cup is quite a nice example of one strand within the contemporary constellation of civil geopolitics: "Almost one in every four players at World Cup 2026 was born outside the country they represent.

Eight of the tournament's 48 squads have at least as many players born abroad as in the country, illustrating how modern international football increasingly mirrors patterns of migration. Few nations embody that evolution more than Morocco.

"Even in the early 2020s, higher education paid back fourteen times more than governments put into it and was worth £265bn a year. But even that doesn’t seem to count for much these days."

But we let people like this say things like this on national TV. bsky.app/profile/huwc...

Got to be one of the most inflammatory statements ever broadcast on the BBC, let alone a current affairs show. Apparently, there’s a ‘regime’ that for ‘30 years’ has been operating against the interests of whites.

This, just down the road from me, is some of the worst I've seen. Portrayed as a community movement, it is in fact a national push, with Laurence Fox, Tommy Robinson, and Nick Tenconi here. The Nazi White Vanguard and other far right groups have also travelled.

I fear Labour people risk falling into an ecological fallacy visible from space when reacting to these results. Here is what is very clear in results so far: Labour are losing *seats* to Reform, but... Labour are losing *votes* to the Greens Greens split the vote, Ref comes thru middle

Wrote this for the @bigissue.com about how Labour's, as with previous governments, focus on anti-asylum policies isn't just harmful for those seeking safety, but is also a diabolical waste of money which could be used to help support people in the UK. www.bigissue.com/opinion/labo...

bigissue.comLabour’s hostile asylum policies are a dangerous waste of moneyIn the last decade the UK will have paid France more than £1 billion to stop channel crossings. We know these policies don’t work.

Many UK universities are slipping ever deeper into financial insecurity while the Labour government seems to be happy to actively prevent recovery. The University of Nottingham is the latest to suffer the consequences.
