STEW YOUNG IS BACK BABY The 30 year mayor of Langford, defeated four years ago, wins big in his rematch. Most incumbents defeated, with the exception of Colby Harder. WINDS. OF. CHANGE.

Did you know? BC has a revenue problem, not a spending problem. Deep personal and corporate tax cuts in the early 2000s, the elimination of the carbon tax and declining natural resources revenues have all contributed to eroding BC’s fiscal capacity

Yeah again this is incorrect. Mainstreet gave the Conservatives a 2.7% vote lead, well within the margin of error, and were within 1 seat of their predictions for MLAs elected I get that lots of people only remember polls that are incorrect, but you're doing yourself a disservice with this stuff

In the 2024 BC election, Mainstreet gave the Conservatives a big popular vote lead (IIRC 5 points) and a clear majority. They were wrong. Mainstreet was just extremely wrong in the Quebec election. Leger is the best pollster in Canada and the only one I would really just take on trust.

Final list of number of candidates for all main parties for B.C.’s 93 provincial electoral districts: Conservative Party — 93 NDP — 92 Greens — 73 CentreBC — 35 OneBC — 33 NDP staff on the bus were very confident telling me I was wrong about claims they weren’t fielding a full slate 🙃

Some details on the new tax on people making more than a million a year if the NDP is re-elected. Would also increase taxes on anyone making more than $190,000.

I feel like I've gone back in time. Only 1 councillor candidate has a website in the #Highlands. How do you know what the platform is for the rest? Paper mail, or attending one of the meetings. (Two others list FB pages but they're not publicly accessible.) #BCpoli

This morning, both the BC Conservatives and the BC NDP ruled out a vehicle levy to fund public transit in Metro Vancouver. This despite the vehicle levy being commonly used in other cities, including Montreal, Seattle, and the bustling metropolis of Gatineau, Quebec.

I think New Zealand has the most beautiful money — both aesthetically & because each note honors a native bird: Hoiho/Yellow-eyed Penguin ($5) Whio/Blue Duck ($10) Kārearea/NZ Falcon ($20) Kōkako ($50) & Mohua/Yellowhead ($100). Are there any other beautiful currencies you think can compete with NZ?

Every sea otter deserves a second chance! In 2025, we opened our Sea Otter Conservation Center. Thanks to donor support, this state-of-the-art facility features two new holding tanks and two exam rooms, allowing us to provide critical care to more southern sea otters in need.

I gave a talk yesterday at a clean tech in incubator, and this was literally my thesis.

I don’t understand the hand-wringing reaction to claims that nueral networks have a 10% chance of destroying civilisation. Fossil fuel companies have a 100% chance of initiating a mass extinction event. Maybe we could address that?

BC has a new time zone abbreviation: PCT. PCT stands for Pacific Time, BC’s single year-round time zone. It replaces PST and PDT, providing a consistent way to refer to BC’s time zone in schedules, systems and communications. No falling back this November.

For the first time in several municipal election cycles, the percentage of women on ballots across British Columbia will be lower than four years earlier. While more women are running compared to 2022, the percentage has decreased, with women now only representing 25% of mayoral candidates.

New polling presented at an event hosted by ResourceWorks showing British Columbians support for various hypothetical natural resource projects. It shows most are in conditionally in favour of Hydro/gas/oil. But they’re against AI data centres.
