The problematic thing about doing a panicked snap election during a municipal election, is that this also catches your volunteers off guard and you could struggle to mobilize a get out the vote in the same way. (Setting aside the whole issue of *if* they wanted to vote for you anyway)

Not voting is in itself a vote, Eby has a long string of broken promises behind him so nobody trusted him to do anything

Taking this at face value, it looks like the NDP essentially lost a quarter million voters, not to the Conservatives, but to general cynicism and not voting?

I'd love to see polling on how many NDP '24, Con '26 voters there are, but I'm guessing relatively few? If that's the case, this would seem to indicate that NDP voters got less motivated this time, and it's hard not to think the snap election call played a roll in that

bcndp abandoned their base to move to right, becoming #bcliberalsLite Kept virtue signalling but not virtuous action So the base never bothered to show up to vote for them, voted for a progressive party #BCGreens maybe some voted cons and many didn't show up vote for #BCliberalsLite #bcpoli

To be fair, there were no people with anti eby protest signs outside the NDP ballroom, it's not like his constituency office has been vandalized or anything like that. Weak reaction, all in all.

Political malpractice. Piss off your base and turn on the party general orientation, then call a snap election. This guy better get the boot.

And his strategists, consultants, and comms people - all those who encouraged or agreed with him about the election call, and were responsible for their spectacularly ineffective messaging during the campaign - need to be given the boot.

Give electors a bad choice and don't be surprised when they make bad choices about voting at all #BCpoli #abpoli #cdnpoli bsky.app/profile/bigc...

My advice to politicians across Canada & around the world is when you take wildly popular, important policy off the table entirely & replace it with junk we all know has no future, don't be surprised when you find yourself fighting for the scraps with bad actors & losing bsky.app/profile/bigc...

Numbers have changed a little. They're still counting in a few ridings. Elected Leading E + L Votes CON 40 23 63 862,317 (910,180 2024) NDP 17 11 28 670,602 (943,915 2024) GRN 1 1 2 196,880 (173,382 2024)

The people who let the "punish Eby" campaign sway them punished the vulnerable who now will be persecuted. Selfish, privileged people caring more about their feels than any of the issues. Hoekstra has been meeting with Doerkson. Welcome to the vassal state of Texas North.

That's why I believe a robust leadership campaign, especially with new blood from outside the previous NDP caucus incumbents, could revitalize this party for 2030. They have room to grow whereas the Cons have a high floor and a much lower ceiling, especially if an internecine struggle ensues.

This excludes ABSENTEE BALLOTS too, because this was an assigned ballot box election if you didn’t go there you had to vote absentee. So all those people in Vancouver who went to their closest voting place but not their assigned box, those votes have yet to be counted, feels like a lot.

David Eby has got the political skills of a rock. He should've said at the news conference. We've only got a one seat majority all it takes someone to get into a car accident before a vote and our government falls and we have an election & explain why they couldn't pass legislation sometimes

70,000 2026 mail-in ballots haven't been counted. These mail-in and absentee ballots will be tallied during the final count, which is scheduled to take place between November 6 and November 10, 2026.

["hopelessly hanging onto any kind of thread for my own sanity voice"] do you think there's much to read in an election with dramatically lower voter turnout that the Greens actually gained votes

It kinda feels like a lot of noise for the same 2 seats and a small handful of vote-split ridings on the southern island.

eh not really like, they *feel* momentum, which is better for them than, you know, how the ndp feels today but they got 17% in 2017, 15% in 2020, and 11% today the nature of their coalition has somewhat changed, but it's still in their traditional zone

I hope one day #BCGreens decide to be a year round professional party, do better fundraising and hire full time organizers And a year in advance of elxns IF govt keeps regular elxns, they do elxn's in each ridings for candidates Adam Olson campaigned for 4 years before he won a seat in #bcleg

I think it would be one thing if you had a 1:1 or even 1:2 NDP decline:Green gain. But it’s 1:7 with a low voter turn out. So it’s good that the Greens didn’t lose voters. But this isn’t really a big leap forward to them.

This should read that mail in ballots from 2026 aren't counted yet, as surely the 2024 mail in ballots have been counted by now? And how many ballots is that, does it affect the vote turnout drop shown in the graph?

And the will likely be minimal, I personally know 4 people who didn't receive mail in ballot packages on time for them to be sent back and counted. And I didn't ask around or anything, it's just come up in casual conversation.

Eby was promising the moon and the stars by the end of the campaign. NDP voters saw no other way to get rid of him.
