Looks like the cold front is finally coming to Minneapolis and St Paul, but hopefully you enjoyed a summer like day! You can see the cold front on radar - the line there is a wind shift. Expect a slight storm chance soon, and also around 5pm or 6pm.
According to Henn Cty Sheriff there they had followed a stolen car with youth smashing windows by helicopter and stopped them here. According to bystanders there was an ICE vehicle with some youth inside. I saw none of this myself so interpret what you will. Thanks to whistles for drawing me in.
The closest I’ve come to death in Minneapolis was a right-on-red driver turning into me on the two-way at Stinson & East Hennepin. My bike hit her front quarter-panel and I barrel-rolled over her windshield. I was lucky with only a concussion. This directive can’t be acted upon fast enough.
Today the Minneapolis City Council's Climate & Infrastructure Committee will be discussing the city's 2-way bikeways and conflicts with right turning vehicles at signalized intersections. Most of these intersections don't have signage prohibiting a right turn through a red light.
Thanks to @mprnews.org Kirsti Marohn for this article on our newly-opened Avivo Village Central Minnesota! They really captured what we're looking for in the new space as people move in ahead of the winter. Also, a huge thank you to JD for sharing his story!

What's everyone's frost or freeze report? We seemed to not frost in South Minneapolis at our house - airport was at 38° at 7am, but I hear Eden Prairie Airport was 31!

Almost forgot, cover or pick your tender vegetation tonight - even in Minneapolis or St. Paul. I am guessing/gambling it'll mostly be a frost in city limits vs. a freeze, but be cautious in that gamble. Dewpoint is below 30 degrees + calm winds could equal trouble for gardens.
So heartbreaking to see what is happening in Toronto right now. I'm 100% in solidarity with these people fighting for their safety and rights. Hopefully Ontario will have a better leader in the future. ✊
Dramatic weather at Bde Maka Ska this morning. Captured a cool shot of a windsurfer out there. I'll be waiting until tomorrow and/or Sunday to join them.
This year, federal agents terrorized our streets, killed our neighbors, and detained our children. Minnesotans were changed forever.
Michele Tafoya thinks ICE treats kids “really well.” I think ICE should be ripped apart and replaced by a system grounded in dignity and due process.
Rain is very gradually moving east, away from Minneapolis, and wind is moving in. Expect gusts to 30+ mph overnight and into Friday morning. This is radar sampled wind behind the storm, maybe a touch high vs surface, but still high - immediately. #mnwx
Chilly and wet this morning in Minneapolis, with moderate rain coming shortly. We might see a break in rain late morning, with a new wave converging over us later today. Expect somewhere in the neighborhood of 0.5" of total rainfall. #mnwx

Possible showers incoming to Minneapolis and St. Paul! Not everyone will get rained on, but if you are outside or planning to be, plan accordingly. #mnwx

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.
I will not be silenced.
10/7 530pm CDT: Attention Northern Gulf Coast! #Isaias is expected to strengthen into a strong hurricane as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast on Friday. Life-threatening storm surge is expected. For the latest forecast, please visit hurricanes.gov#Isaias
“Local stores next to the protected bike-lane have seen a 49% increase in sales, compared to an average of 3% for Manhattan as a whole.”

Now that we're sufficiently soaked, the rain is departing soon from Minneapolis - expect some lingering mist/drizzle not picked up by radar after but accumulating rain should be done soon. #mnwx
Lots of people at Nicollet Open Streets despite the rain! So fun, especially because we normally are on a bike a block away so so many businesses we forget exist without this.

Unfortunately iffy weather for Nicollet Open Streets tomorrow. Looks like spotty showers closer to the beginning (morning through 11ish) and then more organized showers trying to edge in. Slow moving, so possibly with some luck they hold off until afternoon. #mnwx

Tornado forecasting had to start somewhere.
In the 1880s, US Army Signal Corps meteorologist John Park Finley studied tornado patterns, built a network of observers and pioneered experimental tornado forecasts.

Today’s Fall Equinox at 8:05 pm ET marks the start of astronomical fall in the N. Hemisphere and is when the Sun is directly over Earth’s equator. Now through the Winter Solstice, the Northern Hemisphere will receive less ad less direct sunlight as Earth continues along its tilted orbit.
Amazed to say I was able to nearly raise enough for this family to cover their 1st month rent AND their security deposit! Thank you to everyone - I raised $2325 for them.
Some light rain or sprinkles possible over the next couple of hours as some dying rain showers move north. It's a race against time for them - but either way another cool and damp day. Quite a shift from our intensely hot summer. #mnwx
