wellstone was the first politician i ever got to volunteer for. people love to quote “we all do better when we all do better” but i try to live by this one: “If we don't fight hard enough for the things we stand for, at some point we have to recognize that we don't really stand for them.”

Twenty-four years ago today, on October 25, 2002, Minnesota lost Senator Paul Wellstone. We also lost his wife, Sheila, and their daughter, Marcia. Campaign staffers. Today, take moment to honor Wellstone's amazing legacy.

If an amendment to your constitution results in children routinely being shot in school then it's time to amend it again.

October sunsets on Lake Street in Minneapolis are pretty good!

One thing that never, ever gets old: shuffling your feet through the crunchy, autumn leaves when you're walking down the sidewalk.

for reference, in the Dobbs opinion, Alito was like, women generally don't _plan_ to get an abortion, so how could they have a reliance interest in abortion? which is kind of an extension of 'you want health insurance? what, you plan on being sick?'

Marty Lederman@martylederman.bsky.social

Samuel Alito: We won't overturn Obergefell because it's engendered reliance interests. Jan Crawford: Well, many people had organized their lives around Roe v. Wade. Alito: No, they didn't. Women merely had an "abstract" interest in "ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in."

Is asking someone to leave the beverages at home for an interview as fussy as reminding a lady to wear pantyhose or a gentleman to ask before lighting a cigarette? We assembled a team of Post staffers across the newsroom — and commenters — to find out: https://wapo.st/4dwx0LS

Out of love and gratitude for Summit Brewing and in hopes they make it through any financial problems we are making Summit EPA $5 (that’s like 4 plus tax homies) for the rest of the month.

We are just coming off of COVID, the murder of George Floyd, a complete school district redesign, and now operation metro surge. MPS needs stability and increased investment, not school closures.

Christin With Minneapolis@christin-with-mpls.bsky.social

A rushed and reckless plan to close 17 schools is the last thing our district needs right now. Our children are our everything, and they deserve a district that takes its time, engages with families, and builds a plan actually rooted in the needs of our community: not this.

One time, and I promise this is true, Bush gave a flip remark about violence while playing golf and it became a defining moment for his legacy. This president shrugging about a war he started while overseas at a golf tournament that is lining his own pockets won’t be remembered in two weeks.

Q: What do you make of the Gulf nations meeting with Iran? TRUMP: I don't care. That's up to them. We'll ultimately get out. Unless we decide to stay and keep the oil! Like Venezuela

One way to look at the 2016 election is as a contest between one person who wanted to be President, and one who wanted to play the President on TV. And since so many people think of the President as a TV character, they voted for the one better at that.

Unspeakably disgraceful. Doris Miller was a mess attendant -- the only jobs open to Black sailors -- who won the Navy Cross at Pearl Harbor. With this, and reports USN leaders are considering changing the design of aircraft carriers *because Trump said so* -- the Navy is dishonoring itself.

Most Minnesota counties use electronic poll books to track voter information on a roster securely. But one city is fighting to use paper rosters — a method championed by election skeptics. Now, it's up to the state Supreme Court to decide for the midterms. https://demdock.com/4fWvX8m

the problem with conspiracies is they require a LOT of people to stay quiet about incredibly juicy things. always a tough sell. and in the attention economy? impossible.

You'd only need like 1 or 2 million world class ninjas who are also voting machine hackers to pull this off. Of course they'd all need to not brag about it at a hacker con, but that's why you're hiring WORLD CLASS ninjas, because they're professionals.
