Once again a COMPLETE mis-understanding of how\why you have insurance. Should you get yearly checkups? Yes Is it required to stay insured? No So WTF is wrong with only using it when you need it? Because that is HOW IT WORKS! Like, I don't have car insurance so I can total it yearly FFS.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Dr Oz on ACA "fraud" -- "Of the people who signed up, 40% never use the insurance. Let me ask you, John, you have health insurance -- do you use it once a year? In Obamacare right now 40% of the people ostensibly signed up never use the insurance ... we have a lot of fake people on the policies"

One action I recommend everyone do is to find a repulsive Jan6er from close to you and confronting any GOP politicians with whether they think those people should be rewarded for crime.

This is great—and necessary—accountability reporting from @radleybalko.bsky.social, who follows up on an obvious DHS/ICE screw-up to document the many false statements & shifted goal posts the agency trotted out after the fact to cover-up its incompetence. radleybalko.substack.com/p/you-cant-h...

Severe Pre-Eclampsia runs in my maternal line. Women over 30 in my family DIE in childbirth. At 36 I decided to get sterilized - which was WAY harder than it should have been. I didn't foresee Roe being overturned, but it just enforces I made THE RIGHT DECISION - even if I've hit menopause already.

ProPublica@propublica.org

ProPublica has found multiple cases of women with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions. Tierra Walker, a 37-year-old mother, was told by doctors there was no emergency before preeclampsia killed her. (Published Nov. 2025)

What they ACTUAL FUCK is going on. First, you can't have an abortion. Now you can't even choose how you give birth. She's a DULA and knows the risk and was trying to avoid the type of infection she previously had! I'd sue every one of the doctors for pain and suffering.

ProPublica@propublica.org

THREAD: Cherise Doyley was in her 12th hour of contractions at the hospital when a tablet was brought to her bedside. On the screen was a Zoom call with a judge and several lawyers and doctors. She was in court, a nurse told her. The reason? For failing to agree to a C-section.

2 scenarios here. 1) She's Lying (of course she is) 2) She's not doing her job Either way - resign or impeach\remove. JUST on these 2 statements alone. Performative or willful ignorance as Director of National Intelligence is an utter disgrace.

It’s crystal clear now that Trump has lost control of this war. He badly misjudged Iran’s ability to retaliate. The region is on fire. 1/ I’m going to explain to you in this🧵what I’ve learned - in part from closed door briefings - about the four biggest current crises.

Always worth a repost! Also saving for when someone complains about my 2 page backgrounds for clarity LOL.

John Bull@garius.eurosky.social

If you ask someone today to name the builder of Hadrian's Wall, they would give you a funny look. But historical memory is odd, and right up to the 1800s we forgot who built it. Until in 1840 John Hodgson, an obscure Northumbrian clergyman, published the LONGEST footnote in history... 1/22

$0.22/gal??? It was up $0.60/gal in my area on MONDAY from last THURSDAY! Also, those prices were NOT updated in Gas Buddy (which showed similar pricing for the same stations).

Ryan Cummings@weakinstrument.bsky.social

1/3: Here's what wild about gas prices right now. The past two days have seen the largest increase in gas prices ($0.22/gallon) since 2005, making it one of the fastest increases ever. What's suprising about this is not only the magnitude, but the speed of the passthrough.

Holy shit this thread with play by play of the escalation....

Mark Chadbourn@chadbourn.bsky.social

CNN is saying the Iranian attack happened after Trump “lost patience with negotiations”. I don’t believe it. The negotiations were cover. This was always the plan. The scale of the military buildup showed that.

There's no way to put this delicately. And trigger warning here. She didn't "just" unalive herself. Women who commit suicide (in general) do so privately. Quietly. They don't want to burden others. She SET HERSELF ON FIRE. Her suicide was a statement. I guarantee you we only know a TINY part.

Eric Michael Garcia@ericmgarcia.bsky.social

Tellingly, Johnson is once again facing a revolt from the women in his party about Gonzales. And they aren't RINOs: They're hardcore MAGA folks like Nancy Mace, Anna Paulina Luna and Lauren Boebert. He can't dismiss them.

Not having a researcher providing real time rebuttal in near real time is malpractice at this point. If you do not know the US history with forced sterilization of Native, Black, Autistic, Poor AND MORE you should educate yourself. It is wrong across the board. US cannot throw stones here.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

WELKER: Why is it necessary to do something 85% of Greenlanders oppose? BESSENT: Denmark has a terrible history w/ Greenlanders. There were forced sterilizations until the '90s. Now that the US has expressed an interest, there is this new interest. But the US needs to be in control to prevent a war

Seems as if this works — if employers start firing people for standing up for their neighbors and fellow humans — than a remedy is publicizing the identity of those employers.

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

Publishing the names of protesters and contacting their employers to have them fired for exercising their rights is a tactic straight out of the White Citizens Councils.

Abso-fucking-lutely NOT. HARD NO. QR codes are easily weaponized to inject malware. The should not be wearing masks, be in attire easy to recognize and have their badge number (if not Badge AND last name) easily visible. Stop this QR Code madness!

Ritchie Torres@ritchietorres.bsky.social

I am introducing the Quick Recognition (QR) Act, which requires ICE and CBP officers to wear uniforms featuring QR codes. When scanned, the code would generate a digital ID displaying the officer’s name, badge number, and law enforcement agency. ICE should be unmasked both physically and digitally.

Just...WOW (no paywall)

Laura Jedeed@laurajedeed.bsky.social

A few months ago, ICE hired me I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!" My latest for Slate

Trump's thugs are going hog wild and tossing gas around in one of the busiest commercial districts in Minneapolis, just a mile or so from where I live. Complete insanity. (vid via Ford Fischer on X)

Excellent, pretty much frame by frame from different angles look at the facts. This doesn't appear to be behind a paywall.

This is why in at least one state (Georgia) the Governor is NO LONGER ALLOWED to just pardon anyone. They can ONLY pardon those put forward by a parole\pardon commission. It has it's faults, but is a check on this craziness.

Jon Cooper@joncooper-us.bsky.social

Blatant corruption on full display.

Let's see. 1st Amendment. Debate Clause. Also, all in the video are former military ore intelligence that understand the Military Justice code simply REMINDING people that obeying an illegal order has consequences. Perhaps re-upping the Nuremburg trials would be helpful here.

Martha Blackburn defends Trump's call to arrest (and execute) Democratic elected officials

And there it FUCKING IS.

AkivaMCohen@akivamcohen.bsky.social

Ppl need to understand what's happening here. The GOP response to the shutdown was: You're gonna cave, or we're going to hurt vulnerable people by shutting off SNAP. The Dems, unwilling to let that happen, caved. Having watched that, the GOP is now saying: "Give us what we want on abortion or ..."

I would support this IF we add swearing in Adelita Grijalva and the vote is only AFTER that is done. No "promise to swear in w\in X days" - SWEAR HER IN. If they don't, add in releasing Epstein files.

Sahil Kapur@sahilkapur.bsky.social

SCHUMER is on the floor now making this offer to end the shutdown: Clean CR Bipartisan "minibus" of approps bills 1-year ACA funding extension Bipartisan cmte to negotiate on health care "This is a reasonable offer that reopens the government, deals with health care affordability."

FWIW - this is why I avoid the algorithm as much as possible on all platforms. I follow specific folks and add from there and only use "Follow" vs "For You/Discover/etc." In the few instances I don't, I am very cognizant of the difference.

Max von Thun@maxvonthun.bsky.social

Proof (if we needed it) that algorithmic amplification is dramatically accelerating, and perhaps even driving, the unravelling of our democracies. Fixing the problem means tackling the algorithms themselves, not just trying - and failing - to address the harms they cause. on.ft.com/49LNvCy

I thought this was a joke. WTAF is going on with this timeline?! Exactly WHO would Qatar be launching missions against or in defense of in IDAHO?! And how many other foreign nations have bases on US soil?

Brian Tyler Cohen@briantylercohen.bsky.social

So Trump gave Argentina a $20 billion bailout and is now building a Qatari military facility in Idaho. While Americans can’t afford groceries.

As an IT Professional, I know how devastating this will be. Many don't realize how many H1B visa holders work on IT infrastructure and you cannot replace these folks at the drop of a hat.

Cancelling Disney+ and Hulu. Kids will be disappointed but they can deal and make (and fund) their own moral choices.
