I've spent my life in the southern USA, but my people aren't from around here. Older than the Pope. And, yes, I can drive a stick.

The gentleman makes a compelling point:
I'm not saying a Christian *can't* be loyal to the USA—but until they swear an oath to our US Constitution & accept separation of religion & state—I can only conclude they support Christian Shariah Law. Christian isn't a race so it isn't racist to say we don't want Christian Shariah Law here in USA.
Wait, what? Today it's just "a controversial ad"? Let's back the truck up:
This sick, vile, disqualifying ad, siding with a monster who abandoned her 12-year-old daughter in favor of the boyfriend who raped her, and hasn't seen her daughter in 50 years, accusing Acton of lying about, it is being headlinezed into normalcy. It's NOT normal. Don't do that.

Heather Hogan got to ask Dolly one question: "You’ve been puttin’ so much love into my life since I was a little girl, and I just wanna know where you keep findin’ all this love..." Dolly says,“That’s very sweet. I grew up in a very spiritual family..." theheatherhogan.substack.com/p/my-brunch-...
This is just a few little snips from a long piece @heatherhogan.bsky.social wrote back in 2016. Check it out. It'll bring some things back for you. substack.com/home/post/p-...

"I don't understand why you, a fantasy writer, don't appreciate the value of making bargains with the fae."
Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

Can't think of a thing that will radicalize a generation faster than "you've gotta let that old man in the corner over there see what's inside those pants before you play Kindergarten volleyball."
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
If you remember this? You're welcome! If you don't know this recording? You're welcome!
Repost @mickydolenz: This month in 1967, @themonkees released “Pleasant Valley Sunday.” Written by the extraordinary Gerry Goffin and Carole King, the song reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 11 in the U.K. And somehow, it still feels just as much fun to sing all these years later.

GOT SMOKE? It's not just annoying - particles stay in your lungs and at current levels they're bad enough to harm "healthy people." too. C-R Boxes are brilliant low-tech design, very effective, and within your ability to assemble. You, your kids, and your animals will be grateful you've made one.
So the big financial houses are appalled at the "shallow thinking" of the "AI native" job applicants? Hmmmm
Everyone's doing it, it gives you a huge efficiency edge in your career. Turns out that advantage is an illusory mania, you can't afford the addiction after the free hit, and it's devastating the Global South. COCAINE OCAIN CAI AI
CALLING IT. And add any girl who strikes out a special snowflake, or hits a home run off of one.
Guaranteed: 1) Black girls will be harassed and demanded to be tested over and over again regardless of how competitive they are. 2) Winners from public schools will be relentlessly hounded by the parents and coaches of losers at private schools, with the goal of making them quit the sport.
"It's not 'Black history.' It's American history."
Again, please share. In every aspect of American history you will run smack dab into the critical contributions of Black people. It’s not Black history. It’s American history. Trying to erase it is a fool’s errand. We live it every day. time.com/5836444/blac...
Are we decent people, or not?
The stories & photos from today’s voting rights marches in Alabama deserve to be seen by people who weren’t able to stand there in person. If this piece moves you, please share it widely & help make sure these voices aren’t lost in the noise of a crowded news cycle. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...
Of all the scary scenarios I read in the 60s about how Russia might conquer the USA and destroy everything good about our society, none were as audaciously whacked-out and transparently wrong as this. In the Sputnik and moonshot eras, we learned better than this in grade school.
Does anybody with power give a damn about our troops?
Thirteen U.S. troops died trying to get these people to safety — Afghan interpreters, soldiers, and the families of our service members. Veterans spent sleepless nights during the chaotic withdrawal fighting to keep them alive. Now our own government is going to abandon them.
Stay away from those self-checkout lanes, y'all. (Knew *some* companies were doing this - but, shit, Target!) I miss those long-ago days when Tar-zhay was a happy place... Take a pleasant walk around the store and bring home some nice things I hadn't seen everywhere else. No more!
How blessed this country would be if only more of us had learned important life lessons in our early years:
At age 8 my Mom & Grandma took me clothes shopping an hour away. When we got there I told them my stomach was upset. We headed back home & stopped at a Wendy’s so I could throw up. After 5 minutes there I said “April Fools!” Based on look both women gave me I never did an April Fools again.

🤔 1. White people only make up 35% of NYC. They haven't been the majority in almost 50 years. 2. NYC is the *safest* major city in the US. 3. NYC has the *most* white billionaires of any US city. 4. NYC has the *most* white millionaires of any city. Is that what getting slaughtered looks like?
Yesterday Elon Musk retweeted "white solidarity is the only way to survive". In our numb overwhelmed media environment it barely made headlines that the world's richest man endorsed blood-curdling white nationalism. My brief writeup for @religiondispatches.org religiondispatches.org/elon-musk-ju...
TOTAL RESPECT to Sister Rosetta Tharpe, born this day in 1915. Just witness this clip, y'all:
You could say that Rock n Roll was born 111 years ago today in Arkansas, but probably not where you'd think. Before there was a Chuck Berry or Little Richard, there was those who wanted to be like her. Rosetta Nubin better known as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the godmother of Rock was born on this day
Oh, Target, this dog won't hunt. (Alt text for rebuttal on the attached image.)
Re supposed end of the Target boycott: it’s 100% bullshit. See statement below from an *actual* leader of the initial DEI boycott. Even if true (to repeat, it’s not!), it’s not up to any small group. Target has fixed nothing + compounded its DEI sins with ICE complicity. People are done with it!

I don’t think people who aren’t regularly covering the reproductive rights beat realize how common it is for women to be incarcerated for miscarriages.
NEW: Even the strongest anti-abortion advocates don't want to punish people for pregnancy loss. Police and prosecutors are finding ways to do it anyway. Here's what happens when miscarriage is recast as murder:
