I got a new phone, that was manufactured by Siemens in December 1983. It has dark green colour and wonderfully retro aesthetics. 😅

Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.

When generating bibliographies, the models not only omit female authors or misattribute women’s work to male authors; they will also produce lists of works cited in which all work by men is attributed to its authors, while work by female scholars is simply left unattributed.

Interestingly, the intuition I felt and spoke from -- that embodied knowing -- is precisely the kind of thing AI, for all of its performative anthropomorphic gesturing at the simulacrum of personhood, can't do. Tech billionaires want us to believe that our embodied/human ways of knowing are useless!

I'm attending a digital humanities event in Montreal. There was a keynote on AI and something about the talk made me wonder if it had been written by Claude. I said as much in the Q&A. As I posed the question, the speaker shifted, looking slightly uncomfortable. What he said next shocked the room +

There's so much to say about this, but what is particularly striking is that the keynote speaker said absolutely nothing about using Claude to write his academic work until I intervened in the Q&A. It appears that he was not going to share this fairly important detail unless asked..

Incredibly warm March after such a cold Jan-Feb. The month will go down in history as the first March in Finland with nationwide mean temperature above freezing (0 °C). Practically all weather stations will set new March mean temperature record, except those located further out in the Baltic Sea.

It is kind of comical that by pushing the GenAI hype, Microsoft caused the RAM to become so expensive that they have to reduce the GenAI hype (by removing GenAI from a part of Windows 11 applications).

There are a few things I'm proud of this year, and on this list is the fact that I pranked everyone on my office floor by leaving a new rubber duck around for each day of the Winter quarter. 🐤 Some of the ducks were metaphysical. One was encased in ice. All were discreet.

The masked burglar broke into the closed Virginia liquor store early on Saturday and hit the bottom shelf. The bandit was something of a nocturnal menace: bottles were smashed and alcohol pooled on the floor. The suspect acted like an animal because, in fact, he's a raccoon.
