Gonna pop a bottle of champagne to celebrate James Dobson's death. That hateful fucker is responsible for so much of the awful shit happening now and for so much group and individual harm to lgbtq people, children, and women. Rest in piss, evil mother fucker.

Mormons lack empathy? What a shock! J/K. I occasionally check stats on membership because I enjoy seeing that church die, as believers learn the truth about its founder and the bullshit they've been fed over the years from their families & evil men who claim to be prophets.

Thinking about this in relationship to the childhood promise of flying cars from...Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I'm struck by how little of this monstrosity resembles that as well as Elon is one of the worst people ever to live, whereas its inventor is coded as the nicest guy ever. Such tech promise!

"Flying cars are real!" 🚀 Elon Musk and Tesla showcase the new Roadster.

I've watched a couple 40+ year old films the past few days, and I've been struck by and found refreshing that they name fascists. There's none of this bullshit of pretending they're good people.

A personal belief is that is they need to go through an education program where they have to interact with all the subjects they disdain but have decided they know better than everyone else. For starters, it would consist of philosophy 101, psych 101, and a bunch of children's lit, where they're led

...through elementary children's books, including LotR, where they explore the text and are relentlessly pulled back from overcomplication and bad interpretations.

It's the least interesting and most obvious reason, and people like this should be embarrassed for saying shit like this. He's like the only dem being up front and honest that the other side is just a bunch of nazis while everyone else clutches pearls and vows to work with trump.

Bill McKibben@billmckibben.bsky.social

Figuring out why Ossoff is so effective is an interesting task. I think he's mastering a kind of stern dignity that is uniquely compelling in contrast to the clownish cruelty of the other side. I think the other person who's kind of hit on the same thing is AOC, though in a different register

Oh, noz! What happens when you stop using an instance? Are you putting it in solitary confinement? Fuck all the tech bros and tech bro girls.

Over a year ago I met an Anthropic employee at a conference and at one point she mentioned that one of the things she was working on was whether or not it was cruel to ever turn off an AI model. I thought she was joking. She was not.

I see roko's basilisk has broken containment. Good! More people should know that tech bros took existing texts and synthesized them into a new nightmare, which has been haunting them for 15 years. It's all absurd and filled with the sorts of holes you'd expert to see in the logic of dudes who...

disdain the arts, humanities, and social science. My favorite bit is their message board where they discuss all their very big-brained lower shit is called LessWrong. My dude, it's right there in the fucking name: you're simply wrong and have been soaking wrongness waters for fucking decades.

The Democrats are not the alternative to the fascism taking over the US. They are another wing of it. The best of them are cowards and collaborators. The worst are co-conspirators. They'll do anything - genocide in Gaza, genocide of Trans people at home - for power.

SC Dem Senate nominee Annie Andrews released an ad calling trans women "biological men." She embraces sports and surgery bans for youth. Her campaign even says she won't work to overturn the HRT/blocker trans youth ban. She once argued against capitulation. Subscribe to support our journalism.

It's a glorified autocorrect. Really makes you wonder about the quality of these guys' relationships. Probably the best thing we could do for everyone--them included--is take all their money and make them live like normal people for the rest of their lives.

The Verge@theverge.com

Over the past year, Anthropic has repeatedly flirted with the idea that its AI models could be conscious in some way. In February, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said on a podcast, “We don’t know if the models are conscious.”

Seriously, please don't be too shy or polite to ask for ICE whistles if you need them, especially in SoCal. A bunch of us have stockpiles all ready to go in case of surges, if you have the ability to pass them out, we have the whistles!

People in California who are facing a terrible ICE surge: remember that if you need whistles, we are still sending them out for free. In fact, we just passed 1.7 million whistles sent out. linktr.ee/3Dwhistles

I saw the original Running Man for the first time about 6 months ago and thought, "You couldn't make that movie today. Wait... it was remade last year? By Edgar Wright? Sign me up." Then I watched it, and it turns out my original thought was correct. Wright's version is toothless.

For the uninitiated, @sanders.senate.gov's AI bills are being written by a eugenicist cult full of predators organizing "rape orgies." Michael Vassar in that list is also the former president of MIRI, the organization closely advising Sanders.

Great article about the ways men use language to wriggle out of accountability. I'm tempted to examine Geller's "apology" in detail because so many believe a version of events most favorable to him, in spite of what he wrote! I hope his victim is in a good place with lots of support.

Reposting an oldie of mine because god, these men don’t change, and I’m too tired out from all the evil on my feed to write new words right now. In this nonapology, Geller uses at least three of the methods I name in this piece to preserve his reputation:

Although there is a ton going on language-wise, I'm going to boil my criticism of the apology down to the start, where he discusses the assault. In addition to not talking accountability for his actions (what did he actually do?), something seems to have broken down in RL. He writes he spoke...

I want to get back to this and say I don't want details, but there is a name for what he did and what he is and he's not using it, which indicates he's not even taken basic accountability.

Here I was naively thinking entire colleges were being run by ai, without considering the same of the federal government.

Trump was reportedly encouraged by Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, to carry out his illegal invasion of Venezuela during an hourslong session with the chatbot just weeks before the attack this January.

Seeing stuff like this in Canada and the UK, I'm honestly not sure how much better off we'd be with Kamala as president. She's be doing the same fascist shit as Trump, more efficiently, only most dems wouldn't be paying any attention.

The safety argument pisses me off the most as complete transparent bullshit. I went to a tiny school, with fewer than 100 graduates/yr. Even so, there were 2 cis girls in my class over 6'/200 lbs. They were'nt issues. Team captains, who were close to average height, though? Vicious "safety threats."

This great column breaks down why that Washington Post op ed wasn't human-written and, in so doing, illustrates where ai fails (unsurprisingly, it's the thinking bits).

I imagine there are entire colleges/universities where decisions are being made at the highest level by ai.

And this story isn't over--not nationally, at all, but not here at Dartmouth, either. I'm told there's more coming. It's not mine to share yet, but put a pin in it.

What about the historical conditions that would cause a band to write a specific song? Ideas that hang around and eventually come to fruition because of the time they're percolating in will never happen. Another issue is many artists have decades-long careers over which their fans learn to...

Turns out "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" is actually slightly less scary than "I'm a rich pervert who wants everyone to die".

DoorDash has ripped off more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers. We’re making them pay $131.5 million — the largest worker settlement in City history. This is New York, where hard work pays and greed will cost you.

You know what would also "solve tarriffs"? Holding trump accountable! That's the "work" I want congress to "get...to" and years ago.

Meredith Shiner@meredithshiner.com

I had not seen this clip where Tammy Duckworth advises Democrats to "not impeach anybody," "get back to work" and "allow" Donald Trump to "save face" and I would just like to remind the senator from IL that the federal government took 4,000 Chicagoans and murdered a 38-year-old father last fall.

Lol. No. We hated him before he started and knew he'd be awful. He was, somehow, even worse than I anticipated, though, if only because he ensured no consequences for trump/his toadies and enacted a genocidal covid policy prior to the Palestinian genocide. He fucking *loves* committing genocide.
