" I know that, earlier in this essay, I suggested we should “regulate with extreme prejudice”. But what I really want to say about those AI companies is this: terminate with extreme prejudice." Couldn't agree more.

"In return, it demands unimpeded capital flows, & the promise of as much land, water & energy as it needs to service its giant data centres & supercomputers...Colonisation always comes bearing shiny gifts. But AI is colonisation of a kind few of us can..imagine. It’s capitalism’s final destination."

Continuing on in the essay. "To protect the US from the threat of a rising China, Cyclopes offers the US government an array of ... systems that other countries cannot dream of, as well as the fantasy of lab-grown viruses and bioweapons thus far unknown to science."

"To contain and align restive populations domestically, it offers the US and other friendly governments surveillance and facial-recognition systems that promise to make Israel’s Pegasus spyware look like a toy."

A project that Ellen and I have been working on for years, with much sweat from @nathanckim.bsky.social and others. How can we create protest event data for liberatory ends?

In our first episode, we talk to Dr. Keolu Fox about indigenizing tech, circular computing, data terrariums, planning 100 generations in the future, getting students to go watch some waves, and so much more. It was SUCH a cool convo, definitely don't want to miss it!

Here's a great Layman's explanation for why what OpenAI did was so fucking dangerous "Unsolvable problems" are like chew toys for mathematicians. They are not necessarily meant to be solved. They're not even really important problems. What's important are the HUMAN systems we youtu.be/KqiDqJMxg6o

I bang this drum a lot, but the people interested in preserving social and racial hierarchies really want you to believe that those hierarchies are immutable facts of nature rather than choices made by us, the humans organizing our society.

What want to call your attention to is this quote from David Friedman, an anarchocapitalist who signed that weird manifesto Mark Andressen wrote recently. He's in deep with Scott Alexander and the rationalist/EA crew, and here is what he has to say about race "science" (what he calls HBD)

It doesn't all happen consciously but there are some decisions I can trace directly to her book. For example, there are some details that don't seem significant, some ways of being vulnerable that are important for Black girls to see,

like things I included that I KNEW could be fodder for the white supremacists to attack me, things that some people close to me asked whether I wanted to include in my book given how much ammunition people look for, etc, which I decided to include after reading The Disordered Cosmos.
