D.C. United wants the city to pitch in $300 million to help add 8,000 seats and a roof on Audi Field, saying it would expand the number of events there. Critics say it's an unnecessary public subsidy, and the Washington Spirit is an X factor in the debate: www.washingtonsun.com/metro/audi-f...

Simple math for the Spirit: • Win + Wave loss = home field thru the final • Home quarterfinal with any of a win, draw, KC non-win, or Angel City non-win • Loss + KC win + Angel City win = road quarterfinal

#NWSL FT: San Diego 2, Boston 2 The Wave stay alive in the Shield race heading into Decision Day and prevent Gotham from clinching, but they are 3 points back with a game to play after conceding a second-half equalizer vs. Boston. Wave need a win + Gotham loss for the Shield.

The Spirit put together a good defensive showing at CPKC Stadium, but were left lamenting some early troubles on the ball (and an injury for Hal Hershfelt) in what became a 2-1 loss to the Kansas City Current. Your Green Line Soccer went live a while ago but I forgot to post it here:

This has been a real C-, maybe even D+, performance from the Spirit. KC's press is some part of that, but for me it's much more that the Spirit simply haven't brought their best at a venue where it takes an A- or better to get results.

Andrew Wexton reposted

The Spirit have had some real imprecision creep into their possession since the 2nd goal/Hershfelt sub double whammy. You don't see Rudd & Santos badly misplacing passes under token pressure more than a couple times a season, & both have happened in the last 10 minutes.

Anti-trans bigots are coming to NWSL games looking to provoke violence or other incidents that could go viral. This is the back-up plan: harass and endanger anyone who stands up to them. NWSL is going to have to contend with this. Kicking the can down the road will put too many fans at risk.

The ADL made a decision to throw in with the Trump when he was reelected. We're no longer arguing about that. The relevant question now is why any Democrats continue to treat them as anything other than an arm of the MAGA movement

A one-year-old Black BABY was murdered and the state of Mississippi is claiming the white officer who did it was "justified". An absolutely horrifying outrage and injustice.

JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday. Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.

The #NWSL playoff picture with two games left to play: - Shield is now tight, ostensibly still a three-team race - North Carolina has dropped out of the Top 8 One of Portland/Seattle/North Carolina will miss out. Thorns + NC would be particularly notable drops from recent positioning

Good morning from a glorious day south of Philly. #USWNT v Spain, Round 2 tonight. Predictions? I think we'll see a motivated US team, like in Game 2 v Brazil (not as physical as that game). Sure to be changes. Guessing Gisele Thompson at left back, Claire Hutton in midfield (with whom?). GK?

Jordynn Dudley (foot fracture) and Bruninha (torn ACL) are both out for the season—the #NWSL playoffs and then some. Two more major losses for the Shield leaders and defending champions. Dudley might be the Rookie of the Year. She's a starter among stars.

Good move for Monday, who proved in 2025 that she can be a high-end NWSL striker. Still some unanswered questions as to what happened this season, but if Boston can restore her confidence she'll thrive. Also very good business for the Spirit given how deep the front line is now.

FT | 3-2 Whew. That was much harder than it seemed like it was going to be. Questionable defending kept giving Houston chances to equalize, which they took. Good subs from Adrián changed the game and trusted the attack to find a winner—Clara Luvanga and Claudinha connected to do just that.

HT | 1-1 This was a lovely half for the Spirit from an attacking sense. Looked a lot sharper, moved the ball quickly and took 17(!) shots. In this league more than most, you're always vulnerable when you only score once. Poor defending gave a narrow chance and Houston capitalized.
