One way for an author to lose me as a reader when I otherwise enjoy their work is to be a snob about self-published books
At least keep it to yourself if nothing else. No one has to read anything they don't want to, ofc, but every publishing path is a hard road; we should all be in this together
I want all trans people to know that Erika Hilton is a black transwoman and the most-voted congresswoman in the history of Brazil, with 1.5 millions votes. She campaigned for Lula over the last three weeks. WE TRANS PEOPLE CAN EXIST IN POLITICS. Itβs not a dream. Itβs already a reality in Brazil!
To all my Brazilian mutuals: I hope you have a wonderful day. I can't imagine how stressful and horrible the last month must have been, but you made it out of it, and you won.
Now please excuse me as I dust off the mother tongue for just a second.
*clears throat*

Tellari-Universal includes a surprising number of direct translations for idioms, as they were seen as an important tool in helping other species 'get' how Tellari think.
Here are some of them:

#Conlangity Day 25
Ehehe today is a fun day π
Tell me about slang in your conlang! Does it vary depending on time/place/context?
What about idioms? Every language has its weird ones that native speakers barely think about, but new learners are like "wtf?" π
And of course, TELL ME HOW TO SWEAR!
It still hits quite hard, and might get you kicked out of certain places or berated by older folks, but it's also the kind of word kids love saying when no-one's listening, and when those kids grow into adults, they're already somewhat desensitized to it.
kw'raah: expelled like a muted roar, it is an expression of frustration. Imagine punching a wall, but as a word. It is also sometimes used as an insult--any person who causes you intense, helpless frustration, usually by being exhausting or annoying to deal with, may be labeled a kw'raah.

arqhe: someone who does not trust another; in short, a xenophobe. This is a big deal for the very xenophiliac Tellari, whose entire way of life depends on maintaining good relationships with other sapient species. Harder than "asshole", softer than "cunt".
ccnan'n: a contraction of trrhoccna n'hn, 'may the great beast rot'. The kind of biblical-level curse that was the ultimate heresy in the past, but has long lost its bite. Originally meaning that the speaker wished their grun'hn would die just to drag another down with them.

Humans started saying "you can't bite a biter" as casual shorthand for "one should never assume what works for Tel will work for us", and Tellari took this expression and adopted it in a more general, 'walk in another's shoes' type way.
Bonus: curse words!
Even the harshest curses in Tellari-Universal are quite soft. To bring back the "Universal feels to Tel as if they're talking with emojis" analogy, imagine sending someone a bunch of angry emojis.
Doesn't mean they didn't try to adapt a few.

This meter-long centipede-like creature covered in blue stripes (yes, blue--which appears as black to Tellari eyes, as they cannot perceive visible frequencies higher than green), is habitually consumed by Tel one segment (or 'bite') at a time, and serves as a stimulant akin to coffee.
Naturally, daring humans wished to partake (tempted by the euphoriant and aphrodisiac effects higher amounts had on Tel), only to find out that human teeth cannot break through the creature's outer shell, and that even the smallest amount of its poisonous flesh causes debilitating nausea and cramps.

"All dug holes are narrow": following the path built by another is safe, but constraining.
Having evolved from burrowing creatures, Tellari feel at home underground and in holes. While they consider this comfort healing and important, it can also be stifling.
"You can't bite a biter": what seems safe for others might endanger you, and vice-versa.
An interesting saying in that it came from Humans speaking Tellari-Universal, and only then adopted by the Tel. It refers to the black-striped rootbiter.

"Spiced blood": something that is flawed or deteriorated at its core, but is 'dressed up' and presented as unique, special, or impressive. Ex. "This house is spiced blood"
Tel are hemovores, and blood that is no longer fresh must be heavily seasoned in order to remain palatable.
"To wear [someone]": to imitate another, not out of admiration or malice, but because you are unsure of how to act. Ex. "I wore Kena during last onnla's lesson."
Most Tel, when in unfamiliar situations, resort to mimicry, and refer to it as "wearing" someone who knows what they're doing.
IT IS TIME FOR CULINARY ADVENTURE
I dont know what it is about fresh fall produce but things like this look so cozy to me
I also love seeing artwork featuring fall harvest and I am getting the urge to draw a cozy Luka and Jas scene except it woukd involve lots and lots of smoke and wrecked food
I can't afford a spaceship.
You probably can't afford a spaceship.
But that's okay, because no RL spaceship is as cool as any of the ones you'll find in the Spaceships amd the Stars bundle!
