This is me at the end of bat season. Nighttime is GoTime… then what? I have free time and I’m not gonna be up into the single digits.

When you tour for a month in a van and then stop, you will have the energy of 100 buffalos at odd times - mostly at night. This is misplaced adrenaline. Your body thinks it has a show to play, but, alas, it does not. I have experienced this so many times and it never gets easier.

🦇 Hello October! In the UK bat world, more mating is taking place, and building up fat reserves is becoming crucial to survive the winter season. Bats are seeking suitable hibernation sites, and beginning periods of torpor.

BIRD FRIENDS! I need someone who knows Malta and its birds. I am pulling my hair out looking for a reviewer (I think I've tried about a dozen). If that's you (not "someone I know" please), make yourself known! #ornithology

Chinook salmon have recolonised 88% of their historic range on the Klamath River, with more than 13,000 fish passing the old Iron Gate Dam site in 2025, up from 7,700 the year before. Two years after the dams’ removal, it’s going better than anyone predicted. buff.ly/pToC9gB #ShareGoodNewsToo

Fabulous Ice Age spear thrower handle carved in the form of an animal. Known as the ‘Creeping Hyena’ it was carved from mammoth ivory around 15,000 years ago. The shaft is missing, but the hook to propel the spear is still visible. From La Madeleine rock shelter, France. 📷 by me #Archaeology

Really well done thread on #animalmovement

Target reported $1.88B in net income, pumped up by $1B in tariff refunds that WE paid for. Will customers see a dime back? No. Will workers get real raises? No. Target sure found $518M for cash dividends and still has $8.3B in authorized buybacks on the table though.
