Our final champion might be a bit controversial. Your Bat Month Madness: Floofiest Champion is 🥁 𝘓𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘶𝘳𝘶𝘴 𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘶𝘴! 🌯 Was the floofiest bat crowned? Or does 𝘍𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘴 deserve justice?

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

I don’t think everyone realizes how bad things are for US science: For the fiscal year that just ended, the Trump regime withheld $1.4 billion from the National Science Foundation’s research budget, which is about 1/5 of its primary research budget.

One time, and I promise this is true, Bush gave a flip remark about violence while playing golf and it became a defining moment for his legacy. This president shrugging about a war he started while overseas at a golf tournament that is lining his own pockets won’t be remembered in two weeks.

Q: What do you make of the Gulf nations meeting with Iran? TRUMP: I don't care. That's up to them. We'll ultimately get out. Unless we decide to stay and keep the oil! Like Venezuela

The new NSF letter is catastrophic. It shifts NSF towards applied research (which is NOT NSF’s mandate), will funnel money to business and away from universities, promises to push even more money to AI, and policital appointments can overrule entire panels. Also, golden tickets overruling everything

Alex Wild@alexwild.bsky.social

Ultimately, this letter from NSF is an announcement that universities will be funded a lot less and politically-connected industry will be funded a lot more. Fancy words around old-fashioned corruption.

The wealthy countries seem to have a core of 15-30% of their voting populations who *just fucking hate foreigners*. This section of the electorate are for various reasons disproportionately well represented among the ultra-wealthy and thus are able to secure some favourable media coverage.

🦇 It's that time of year when young, naïve bats turn up in places they would be better off steering clear of. Any bat that is on the ground or out in the open might need help. Thanks to Claire from AC Gallery in Kendal who found out who to call, this girl will be lucky .... #lovebats #batcare

The "special white house projects" are tech-centered things like AI where Trump is able to solicit bribes in exchange for "grants". This policy is just crime, like so much of what Republicans do.
