Mpls / St. Paul / Minnesota BlueSky, today in "exactly how media-bubbled am I?!": The GOP political attack ads during NFL & the World Series have been insane, just fear mongering over Somali fraud & violence galore. How are there no similar left-funded ICE-related ads? Are our memories so short?

Are Dems so inept or the media so complicit that any messaging about ICE, state-sponsored violence and occupation is actually a net negative for statewide campaigns? I feel like I should know enough to understand this without being left wondering "How is this the state of things?" But here I am.

We'll see how far the attempt goes, even if it will clearly fail. But a constitutional system that sees such an attempt by its chief executive and then leaves him in office has already been shattered. Merely trying is betrayal enough and places him outside of constitutional or democratic legitimacy.

"If they're going to make the playoffs, Minnesota is going to need more help. And they're going to have to do the most difficult thing, for any Minnesotan: learn to accept it."

Jon Marthaler@jonmarthaler.com

Minnesotans know what to do, when someone offers to help. But for sports teams, and especially #MNUFC, you can't go full Minnesotan. A recap of a 2-2 draw with Colorado that was a true #MLSAfterDark game, except is too close to the playoffs to be truly appreciated:

How many side nets can one Yeboah hit if a Yeboah could hit side nets? #MNUFC

Jon Marthaler@jonmarthaler.com

Okay so now Colorado has given #MNUFC a man advantage with a hilarious red card, and now given them a tying goal with one of the funniest own goals I've ever seen. Minnesota does not want to win this game as much as Colorado wants them to win it

In continuing #FuckICE news, SPPS just announced an enrollment shortfall of *hundreds* of students, many of which are ELL. The social and economic fallout of Operation Metro Surge continues to hit St. Paul and the Twin Cities at a time where these costs are hardest to bear, to boot.

A worthless point for the Loons. 1 league win in 16. No league wins at home since mid-April. I’ve never been more certain of a post-90 equalizer in my entire life. You already know what the coaches will say postgame. And you already know nothing will get fixed by the next game. #MNUFC

Olivia Coleman as the next Coleman mayor of St. Paul was a perfectly executed bit

John Maddening!@johnmaddening.bsky.social

Well, that was a delight. Thanks to all my compatriots and competitors, as well as the fine folks who did all the logistics work to make a fun event like this happen. It was wonderful to call out Kim Bartmann and Brian Ingram for being awful in front of 160 folks, and trash our awful Mayor as well.

As completely deranged and fucked up and wrong as he is, I gotta say it is stressful to have the damn president of the United States constantly attacking my state of Minnesota, sending violence, calling for violence, putting all lives at risk, killing our neighbors. Like it really takes a toll.

Brad Reed@bwreed.bsky.social

The president of the United States is inciting a fucking pogrom.

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

Well, that's a pretty stark comparison, if there were any lingering doubts among Loons fans about how the locker room dealt (and is dealing) with the obvious lack of ambition from the #MNUFC ownership and front office. Yikes.

Jon Marthaler@jonmarthaler.com

Talking to Dayne St. Clair and Tani Oluwaseyi, at Allianz Field, made it feel like no time at all had passed. The two former #MNUFC stars were both obviously happy to be back in Minnesota. One sounded wistful - and the other sounded like any other Loons fan.

Mayor Her needs to resign today. Full stop.

Sharing my comments from today’s meeting of the City Council, related to the hiring of outside counsel to represent Mayor Her in the lawsuit brought by Chief Henry. The full audio of the meeting is available here: stpaul.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=....

Notable lack of Loons-posting tonight during this #MNUFC away match... ...matching the lack of tactics, energy, and execution by the team down by 2 in 35 minutes. Just actively bad and being out-played.

Cam waits too long on subs. It is written in stone. Too inflexible, too slow, too predictable, and it's been a brutal, no-good season. #MNUFC

Still waiting for the first game of Knowles' tenure where I understand the sub decisions, both on timing and personnel. #MNUFC

UMN President email subject: "A new approach to budget planning during unprecedented times" Email content: 15% additional across the board budget cuts. "A new approach" indeed. You'd have thought UMN would avoid euphemistic corpo-speak after the backlash to the massive healthcare cuts, but no.

Wes Burdine@wesburdine.bsky.social

At what point do they get to the point where there’s just nothing left to cut where we just stop having universities? The U of M is one of the biggest economic engines in the state and we keep on shrinking it down

Schools across the state started offering free breakfasts and lunches to all students in the fall of 2023. The number of students eating school lunch went up 15 percent the first year. The number of kids eating breakfast at school went up 40 percent.

#MNUFC is underperforming at historic rates. This 10th Anniversary season is the Loons most underperforming season ever, with the closest being 2023 when Adrian Heath was fired.

Five months later, Vancouver and SKC are in the running as the best and worst teams by xPoints since 2013. Nashville are likely going to win the Supporter's Shield like most teams over the last few years - by over-performing their underlying metrics. Montreal has had rotten luck.
