This illustrates pretty well what an essential building block transphobia and anti-queerness have become in the contemporary far right. Unfortunately, in many countries (and especially in the UK) transphobia has been mainstreamed and legitimized even more than nativism. Including in academia.

Q: How do you define socialism personally? JD VANCE: I think in reality what it actually means in the American context is you want to replace American workers with foreigners workers, and you want boys to play in girls' sports

Excited to present work with @payoub.bsky.social at APSA in Boston. We study a real-world disinformation event in which a Swedish far-right organization abused the visual identity of Swedish LGBTQ+ civil-society organizations to make it appear as though they support the legalization of paedophilia.

A good moment to recommend Angela Saini‘s Superior, which traces back the history of “race science” and shows the institutions that sustain this pseudo-research until today. These pursuits have nothing in common with the principles of academic inquiry www.angelasaini.co.uk/superior

Actually, one more - I feel like I should say this directly, so here goes. In the 90s and 00s, the groups I remember pursuing this strategy (hyperpublicize mugshots, Black crime statistics, etc) were Stormfront, the Klan, etc. Now it's the New York Times and the Telegraph. That is the story here.

Over the last few days I've watched highly politically engaged, educated people who are otherwise clear and careful thinkers attempting to litigate the obvious facts of the matter with respect to the late Arday's obvious layers of misconduct, taking their turn wheeling the horse into the gates. 11/

I just hope some people don’t now pretend to be surprised. I’ve seen people openly dismiss concerns about his mental health while continuing to obsessively kick someone when they were already down. I hope this makes us reflect on the values we want to uphold in academia.

1/ Happy to share our paper 'Still Instrumentally Inclusive' w/ @turnbulldugarte.com in @apsrjournal.bsky.social. Understanding homonationalism remains important. Recent events (Berlin) have shown how quickly LGBT+ rights can become instrumentalized in debates about immigration and Islam.

2/ In this paper, we revisit our original findings from Spain, and show that the substantive conclusions remain robust across thousands of alternative specifications. Replication, criticism, and reanalysis are part of how science progresses—we're glad to contribute to that process.

3/ Beyond the substantive findings, we hope this is useful for researchers interested in interpreting effect homogeneity, robustness, and multiverse analysis. Many thanks to the reviewers and the APSR editors. We hope others find it useful, whether for research, teaching, or future replications.

Being queer means being the target of violence. Every queer person knows this. It's deeply engraved in who we are. We live with it every day of our lives. Not because of terrorism but because it is structurally enshrined in our "free" societies. Violence against queer people is not an exception ...
