Rich people should learn from the post mortem adoration Dolly Parton is reviewing, how most of it isn’t even about her music, and take notice imo. Rich guys seem legacy success but won’t built a fuckin community center. Curious.

And we have a new all-time record warm *absolute* temperature for the oceans, according to ERA5 (which goes back to 1940): August 21st likely marked the warmest Sea Surface Temperatures have been for the entire Holocene period. Should be major news!

The US Army realised in 1941, as it spooled up for war, that it needed around 500,000 typewriters to function. so great was the need that they had to requisition and ration them. HALF A MILLION. Equivalent to 40% of the entire US domestic supply at the time. Logtics wins wars.

The only matches in the house. Each book contains no more than 4 matches.

This is some incredible reporting by a local news outlet. As a two year Zephyr season ticket holder I have been looking for something which explained how shaky the franchise foundation was. It turns out it was very shaky. Not from bad intentions but the league and ownership were clearly adrift.

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

Here’s the thing that frightens me. Everyone executed their roles almost perfectly in the response to these fires and it was still this bad. Everyone. Responders, city, county and fed officials. Detection and warning systems. Everyone did their jobs very well. This was a best case outcome.

for reference and comparison: conservatively, the United States spent two-thirds of that figure in the *first week* of the war on Iran. it's genuinely difficult to overstate how many world-historical own goals US politics has accumulated over the past few decades

I just went 82-0, think you can go 82-0? www.82-0.com/share?id=n3m... I have rarely felt more accomplished

I just went 70-12, think you can go 82-0? www.82-0.com/share?id=8GW... This is an incredibly underrated passing team and I think would do better than 70 wins.

Living - Whit Stillman. I don’t think his politics are especially toxic but the classism definitely seeps through. Dead - Walt Disney. He gets a pass for how the studio has evolved after his death.

As local, state and federal law enforcement flooded North Idaho Sunday in response to a horrific ambush on local firefighters, social media brimmed with misinformation. Here’s what we know, what we can debunk and what’s still up in the air. rangemedia.co/idaho-...

Visited friends in Sun Valley, Idaho and they got me a pass to their gym. I got off the treadmill and Jamie Lee Curtis was waiting behind me to use the next free machine.

Should emphasize how unnecessary this escalation was. This smoke and tear gas was used against completely peaceful protest about a block from an open air soccer stadium filled with kids and families. Why discharge those rounds knowing the wind could easily take the fumes onto the field?

Smoke bombs drift over the field during the Velocity match. Maybe next time Spokane PD can figure out which way the wind is blowing before letting off some of these.

This is, very likely, the best movie made this century.

if you'd like to see a wide re-release of Hundreds of Beavers in theaters this year, one night only, in thousands of cities — repost this. we've got some doubters.

ICE agents who did not present a warrant chased Martin Diaz into his backyard, dragged him out, cuffed him & put him in an unmarked vehicle. He is being held in Kootenai County. He was trying to get his green card. rangemedia.co/arrested-wit...

@johnhollinger.bsky.social is Derrik Queen a blue crab state Boris Diaw? I mean this in all the best and worst ways.

‘They just take people’: ICE arrested a Ghanaian immigrant after church while his wife, a US citizen, was on her way home. Now she sits by the phone waiting for him to call from a detention facility as his lawyer tries to reopen his green card application.

I’m just going to say that AOC is the acting leader of the Democratic Party until someone proves otherwise. At least insofar as she is responding to the moment with leadership.

Today, a brush fire started in Pacific Palisades fueled by extremely high winds. At the Getty Villa, some trees & vegetation on site have burned, but no structures are on fire, and staff and the collection remain safe. The Villa is closed to non-emergency staff and the public.

incredible -- the NYT ran fluff "what i hope to see in 2025" blurbs from CEOs and economists, and then this guy www.nytimes.com/2025/01/02/o...

When my son was preparing to go away to college we took a few trips to our local grocery store so he could learn how to shop. Start in meat section and look for sales. Then get ingredients that complement meat you found. One of my best dad lessons.

Cesar Chavez is greeted by supporters outside Monterey County Jail on Christmas Eve 12/24/70 after CA Supreme Court orders his release for refusing Monterey Co. Superior Court judge’s order to halt UFW boycott of grower struck during the lettuce/ vegetable strike earlier that yr.

The first one I still remember is rookie Will Clark, Candlestick Park 1986. I’d seen a couple of Giants games before that but have no real memory of the game action.

Charleston. In my mind it’s all the best of southern culture, food, and architecture and none of the rabid conservatism.

American Movie is a modern classic and I endorse any and all attempts to introduce it to a new generation.

AMERICAN MOVIE (1999) screens November 26th & 27th on a 35mm double bill with HANDS ON A HARDBODY (1997).

George Lucas writing a prequel trilogy about trade tariffs in the late 90's...

My favorite in game dunk of all time. Peak of my Warriors fandom.

Democrats have spent years carefully abandoning political positions it fears might cost them votes, each time getting closer to the ultimate goal: a political party that has zero positions and therefore cannot lose votes.

Washington State journalists, we need someone local writing the story of why Wa did not lurch right in the 2024 election like the rest of the country. Is anyone working on that story?

Happy Life Day everyone!

Logged into Netflix for the obvious reasons tonight, to watch the Eli Roth Thanksgiving horror flick
