The first one I am sure of was seeing "Blade Runner" in the theater in 1982 when I was 12. My parents figured that even with the R rating, a movie with the guy that played Han Solo and Indiana Jones wouldn't be that rough. Kind of figured they probably regretted it, but they never really said.

Patrick Klepek@patrickklepek.bsky.social

Do you remember what *your* first R-rated movie was? I finally asked my mom (I couldn't remember), and she told me it was The Lost Boys when I was roughly the same age as my daughter (about 9). The movie traumatized her more than it did me, apparently

100% agree with this take.

It’s fitting that “Disclosure Day” seems to be polarizing. We don’t live in an era open to empathy, sincerity and optimism, and that’s what this movie offers. But it does so as a response to our moment. I cried for about 15 minutes after credits rolled. This is a top-5 Spielberg move for me.

Miss Muench, 6th grade. Cared about her students as people more than any other teacher I ever encountered. She stayed friends with my mom over the years and, on a whim, I sent her an invitation to my wedding. Was pleasantly shocked when she traveled from Michigan to California to attend.

Thinking about shitty teachers is a bummer so, what about good teachers? Who’s in your Hall of Fame & why? ⭐️ Mrs. Flam, 5th grade. Colorful polyester suits, orangish hair in an updo. Played guitar & taught us to sing age-inappropriate folk songs. Could see I was struggling & was unfailingly kind ❤️

As a parent you are going to really look forward to sharing the entertainment and activities that you love with your children. Be prepared for the disappointment when they hate some or all of it.

I’m so sick of former bird app takes, I want to hear everyone’s parenting hot takes

I've seen 6 of the ones in the quote post (E.T., Raiders, Star Wars, Empire, Jurassic Park, Jaws) with live orchestra. I can add 9 more... Return of the Jedi The Princess Bride Superman (1978) Nightmare Before Christmas Encanto Coco The Lion King (1993) The Little Mermaid Beauty and the Beast

Pleased that I can do an “all with live orchestra” version E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Rocky Raiders of the Lost Ark Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back Back to the Future Home Alone Jurassic Park JAWS Close Encounters of the Third Kind

I saw the movie last night and this is really the first review that I've seen that had me nodding my head in agreement. I'm not for a moment going to pretend the film is high art and I suspect it's going to be more niche than a typical Star Wars movie, but I was grinning through the whole movie.

"The Mandalorian and Grogu is not a movie for any old Star Wars fan, or perhaps any old audience. It exists at a weirdo fever dream intersection of specific desires and interests." Hesitant about The Mandalorian and Grogu? @use-theforce-em.bsky.social was too. At first.

I saw E.T. at a Sneak Preview in 1982 when I was 12, knowing nothing about the movie other than it's title and that it was from the director of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Close Encounters. Only time that I remember seeing a packed theater give a movie a spontaneous standing ovation at the end.

Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences? Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.

Introduce yourself with artists you've seen multiple times: John Williams (30+) Billy Joel (7) Paul Simon (6) Weird Al Yankovic (4) Susan Egan (2 + several times as part of larger casts)

I love this score so much. The Rocketeer and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (with score by Michael Kamen) came out in consecutive weeks in 1991 and I had those two soundtrack CDs on pretty much continuous rotation for the rest of that summer.

Matinee Mode@matineemode.bsky.social

James Horner’s score for THE ROCKETEER (1991) is some of the best work of his career and it deserves to be celebrated more.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, seek out "October Sky". It is my go to choice whenever anyone asks for an example of a great film that few have seen.

Happy birthday to Joe Johnston! He designed a lot of great ships, then directed Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989), The Rocketeer (1991), Jumanji (1995), October Sky (1999), Jurassic Park III (2001), and Captain America (2011).

At a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, I saw a tweet from Michael Giacchino that he was there too. I replied that it looked like he had a better seat and he responded asking where I was seated. He then came and found me to say "hello" and take a photo. Couldn't have been nicer.

Screw "never meeting your heroes." What were some times you met your heroes and they were super cool?

When Disney's California Adventure opened, it had a Wolfgang Puck restaurant called Avalon Cove with a bar that served a lighter menu. They had the best clam chowder I've ever had. The restaurant lasted about a year and I've tried other Puck restaurants, but none use that same recipe.

@repluzrivas.bsky.social I am a constituent and hope that you will echo Congressman Jackson's demand for resignations due to the appalling security breach revealed today.

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

If your own member of Congress is a Democrat and hasn't made this demand, ask them why. If your member is a Republican, ask them anyway. Don't let them off the hook. Let them know you're watching all this.

I'm not sure it's much longer than usual. The bus lines are really short, so I think they have changed procedures to hold most of the crowd in the switchbacks ahead of security. They let people into the security lines in batches.

Watergate, although I mostly thought it was a strange TV show my parents kept watching. First one that I remember that I really understood as a news story (not counting elections) was probably the Iran Hostage Crisis.

Saw "Wicked" this evening. I really hope they stick the landing with Part 2, but this adaptation of the first act is about as good as it can be. The casting is perfect and the extended length allowed both the characters and story to be fleshed out considerably. Despite the length, it never dragged.

I'd be the engineer proving that hyperspace isn't really fast enough and providing advice on how to make it faster that must be followed or I won't allow your new ship to be sold.

Seeing Star Wars in Concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall tonight. Anthony Daniels is narrating with the Los Angeles Philharmonic playing suites from all 9 Skywalker Saga films.

My very first computing experience was on a TRS-80 Model III just like these.

I’d watch a movie or series about these people, especially if it were on a new Radio Shack streaming service (Shack Plus?).

Reminds me of a favorite sequence of photos taken on the Disney Wish last year. Between these two photos, Tiana elbowed Naveen and pointed over at me.

I'd been looking for a video of this as I had troubles getting my 20-year-old son to believe me when I told him about it.

I've been married 24 years to someone I met via an in-person meet up of members of a Usenet newsgroup. I know of at least 5 other married couples that met via that community.

Just saw The Wild Robot and it's is really fantastic. Probably the best film DreamWorks Animation has done. It's gorgeously animated, very funny, and has a tremendous amount of heart. Disney made a huge mistake when they let Chris Sanders get away.

As a teen, I worked in summer at an amusement park restaurant. At one point, I was suddenly informed that I was being transferred to a different restaurant, something I wasn't too happy with. Soon after, the supervisor and all remaining employees at the original restaurant were fired for stealing.
