Sure, this is good. If you're still using some Chrome thing in 2026, idk what to tell you. But you can do even better: you can use Librewolf, a high-integrity Firefox fork that takes your privacy more seriously, and add the NoScript extension. Disable wiping history/cookies on quit if you like.

Not a surprise, just a result of antisocial design choices, perverse incentives, propaganda saturation, and taking systemic and individual advantage of broad psychological weaknesses. You can't fix this without broad systems change. That's more than democratization, we need deliberate reorientation.

Your MCU Likely Escaped the eMudhra Intermedia CA Compromise By now, you have likely seen reference to the eMudhra Intermediate CA Compromise. Perhaps this is an opportunity for us to learn from the intention with which we build software for constrained devices. danielmangum.com/posts/mcu-em...
The effect on the industry is awful and I don't want any of these people to lose their livelihood or their projects. This is, however, a moment for the wider community to step up and take the reins of their own future away from monopolists. Stop thinking like a consumer and control your space.

As somebody doing my own experimentation and finding the rabbit hole goes DEEP, let me tell you it is becoming alarmingly easy to run your own AI agent on your own hardware at a pace that vastly outstrips the typical user's capacity to do so safely; no idea what lurks in the tools or even the model.
Even a .safetensors model itself can be poisoned to compromise your system. The practice described in this paper was recently brought to PoC in the "bonsoir, Elliot" model that, upon trigger input & given a shell, downloaded a script that finds & steals user secrets www.anthropic.com/research/sma...

Most users will not be familiar with sandboxing KVMs or configuring VLANs and firewalls properly, and this is only even a question when the user is aware of the presence of a threat. A lot of people are going to be rawdogging this shit on a machine containing their life's work, sometimes unknowingly

You can now run a model rivalling 2025's frontier or better on a cheap gaming PC with as little as 8GB VRAM and 32GB system RAM, using a single piece of software you can download and set up in just a few clicks. However, without hours of effort and years of experience, you are in significant danger.

This goofy meme is actually an important cultural-historical artifact that informs our society today. The creeping alienation of Internet-arbitrated interactions, like an online ordering form for Dominos pizza, was about to advance with the introduction of the Apple App Store. In this essay I will

This expands well on a simple point I've been hammering for years: Social media is a new generation of primitive accumulation, enclosure of the commons. They offer a "free" space for us to build value within, wait for critical mass, then move in to hyperexploit the value trapped by network effects.
I like this framing that social media is built and shaped by its users and not by the companies who run them (they'd have nothing without them)
If you're not using an AI agent, this changes nothing for you. It's an API that allows you to use something like Siri to control it. Apple made iOS apps controllable by Siri nearly a decade ago. If you have security concerns I have bad news for you about running executables on a PC.
PSA: The latest NVIDIA App update adds a Default-ON option that allows AI Agents to control the app... Might want to turn it off.. Even aside from being lame AI features, that feels like making security even worse by defaulting it ON.

Some of my motherboards have features that can only be controlled by software that can't possibly justify their existence as juggernauts that have to be eating my RAM and making network traffic at all times. I try to use Logitech et. al. who let me save profiles to hardware instead of running Razer.

Ah man. I really admired his work at Apogee. He was the first one really thinking with portals.
It is very rare to hear videogame trailblazers mention that someone else most likely would have come up with the same idea eventually. So big props to Richard "Levelord" Gray here, discussing his work on HIPDM1 open space deathmatch map. RIP. From "FPS: First Person Shooter Documentary" (2023).
